yeh i didn't catch it on my first watch, but tess talks w keith about who i assume was marcus, and what seemed to be an abusive relationship. and she says something about being walked all over and the lesson she needs to learn is "i just gotta stop going back". and what gets her hemmed up in the movie is her empathy and her compulsion to keep going back, once for keith bc shes worried for him. and again she goes back to help justin long. ironically, justin long she immediately trusted bc i guess they were in the same boat, but he was the truly dangerous man that she feared keith wouldve been. and he sold her out asap even though she risked everything to save him. also, i think there's a gender theme that relates her to the inbred woman. bc even in that hellhole of a life she had as an inbred sex slave, and probably only working off ten braincells, she still had the nurturing instinct (which she models the only way she knows how, based off that vhs tape, bc its all she knows), and she risked her life to save tess. the barbarians imo r the old guy and justin long. even keith kind of screwed tess over bc being a straight man he didnt take tess at her word, then didnt run as soon as he saw that room, he went further to investigate. justin long is obviously way worse, and then the old guy is top tier evil lmao. funny how he was so outraged by the tape he saw, bc sir u also raped a woman. he just made excuses for himself, same way he did after he threw tess off the tower.
