Extended Writing Update
Added 2024-12-15 22:30:40 +0000 UTCThis was an incredibly successful week for writing. I don't know if it's me throwing myself into it with more gusto to distract myself from everything or if I just had a really oddly timed surge of inspiration, but every worry I had about chapter one is just gone. And there were a lot of them. Not real showstopper worries so much as a continued sense that "things are much better every time I rewrite this but something still feels off."
This time, it all clicked into place. I started writing in a new file and pulled in things as I went, and also created a new outline for the first chapter. I'm finding that I'm rushing less and spending more time on wrapping up some elements of book one, like what's happened with various characters that could be alive or dead at the end of book one. I live by (and sometimes trip over my own feet by) the motto of "if it's boring, move it along." I don't like to write filler, and sometimes that leaves me skipping too quickly towards the plot. In this case, we actually do need to slow down. I had a major plot point I wanted to introduce in chapter one and I'm seeing now that it's really not that urgent, there's plenty of time for us to get settled, let MC make some choices about their hair and outfit, and talk to the team + some other important people.
I'm hoping this'll give players some solid ground to stand on before everything goes haywire π€ͺ
The only downside is that by restarting the chapter so late, I'm going to have to kick it into high gear to make my end-of-month deadline. I'll still be pulling parts from old drafts into the current one so I'm hoping that'll soften the blow. But overall I'm looking at things and just hoping I can grind out about 12k more words in the next week - wish me luck lol. There's also still the two bonus stories and the monthly extra. I think I can do it if I really push myself. I guess we'll find out 0_0

"We just need to keep working together," I answer. "That was enough to build this city, even in the midst of the Fae Wars. It should be enough to protect it now, too."
"Well said," he nods, the approval in his voice palpable.
