He apologized for his homophobic remarks, he accepted the gay label for himself (I might be misremembering, but I think this is his first time verbalizing it?), and he confided in someone else. Those are all incredibly difficult things to do with a lifetime of Christian guilt piled on top of you. With all of the hate the queer community is getting lately, it's heartwarming to see Gabe choosing himself and starting to embrace who he is despite that external pressure.
