Chapter 32 rewrite.
Added 2021-04-28 22:06:44 +0000 UTCThanks for the feedback, I really do like that you guys pointed out the flaws with today's chapter.
I am very much an amateur and this was a large deviation from the tone of the normal story. So for now we'll treat this as a interlude joke chapter at the end of the arc.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll get the new 32 out on Friday and try and get Tier 15, and 25 a extra chapter next week. (So 4).
I'm putting this in the vault of lessons learned.

I like chapter 32, the mindwipe is a bit OP, but still enjoyed Vlad's charactor.

2021-04-29 07:54:07 +0000 UTCI'll echo the sentiments here and from my comment on chapter 32. I very much enjoyed this "holodeck gone awry" like scenario where the actor takes on its role to the point of 'breaking character' and even jumping off of the stage entirely. Plus rifts are supposed to produce permanent creations like treasure rewards.. and monsters can escape normally via rift breaks and such so making an early escape like this isn't Too abnormal. I'm fine with the memory loss, its not like vlad did a complete rewrite of all their memories and the tweak to keep best fox from eating the faux vampire hearts could simply wear off with time given that it'd be difficult to Keep someone unaware of a skill they have inside their spirit and all that. Heck maybe the mind-manipulations in general have time limits that Vlad would not be aware of since he's effectively in a new realm with its own take on the rules of magic?

2021-04-29 06:32:32 +0000 UTCOh whew I thought Vlad would no longer be in the story. Mindwipe or no I'm fine with whatever direction you take it. Hopefully Matt will learn how to rely on himself more again, what is this 2 Rifts that Liz's powers have nearly lead to their death?

2021-04-29 05:17:16 +0000 UTCI honestly thought stuff like this was already foreshadowed with the dragon tree rift. This wasn’t a surprise to me at all really.

2021-04-29 00:53:43 +0000 UTCI have yet to read the original, it seems like the main controversy is around memory erasure at the end of it? I am not opposed to out MC's forgetting something because they came across something powerful enough to achieve that. Though I can see why others would have a problem with it. If anyone wants to read a series that has memory fuckery as one of its main themes, I Highly recommend 'Memories of the Fall' on royal road. It is a Xianxia in the traditional sense, much like ISSTH and Desolate Era, except with much less casual Misogyny and a world that actually makes sense. Also, Eldritch Horror.

2021-04-29 00:32:44 +0000 UTCThe whole mindwipe thing felt a little off. Allowing memory alteration seems like it might be a pandora's box for the novel in a small arc written on a whim (where people abusing mind control/alteration would have to become a major story point at some point). Whatever the new version of chapter 32 looks like, the ability to take it back and change it is one of the great aspects of the serialized novel.
2021-04-29 00:22:19 +0000 UTCI liked the idea of him but I can see where its too jarring of a shift this early on in the book and in the tiers. However I feel like it would be amazing later on.

2021-04-28 22:45:47 +0000 UTCVlad will still be there! the original idea was Vlad wasn't the OG boss. It was meant to be a copy of him. but he felt the pull and jumped into the body/rift. So he was meant to be a normal Tier 5 boss. But with Vlad in the driver seat its a different monster.

2021-04-28 22:42:04 +0000 UTCYeah it wasn't clear, but this vlad wasn't the OG boss. it was supposed to be a copy that was the right power. and he felt it and just slipped in. Yeah the mindwipe wont happen now. This has been a learning experience

2021-04-28 22:34:08 +0000 UTCIdk midwipe seemed very chill since it's a pretty normal powerful vampire ability as already stated and is only annoying if it happens all the time. It explained why no one saw the boss. Also explained why they were treated differently as Liz had blood abilities. Sure I was stoked for a big bad boss fight but being outclassed happens. Non-linear or non-standard ends make things interesting. It also makes sense why they were both outclassed and spared as its the motivation of Vlad to escape. Also shows that rifts aren't as formulaic as commonly thought by the general population which adds mystery. However, I support whatever choice you make on the Canon of this chapter. I will miss my boy vlad though. I think the only confusing part for me is why a rift would summon a clearly higher level being for a T5 rift?

2021-04-28 22:34:00 +0000 UTCI liked the idea of Vlad, and the idea that the rift may summon/grab people/characters from other realities. I do have a couple things that concern me. First, why is such a high level person in a low dungeon. If he wanted to, he could have slaughtered them. To me, a better idea would to have maybe put a restriction on his power, or put him in a higher rift. Also, not a fan of the mind wipe unless it turns out to be a very unique power. Otherwise it just becomes a annoyance. Otherwise, keep up the great work, love your story

2021-04-28 22:32:00 +0000 UTCAlso, in regards to the mind wipe, that's pretty standard for a high class vampire. And there was no mention of it affecting the AIs which leaves potential bread crumbs to find later. Also explains why the fox didn't eat a heart which I was curious about last chapter.

2021-04-28 22:19:40 +0000 UTCYeah this is where i think ill take the story. I agree mindwhipes turn meh real quick

2021-04-28 22:18:12 +0000 UTCI liked the chapter. Thought it showed some world building about what the rifts actually are and how they might not just be filled with constructs. Thought it was similar to the rift on the dragons back kinda thing.

2021-04-28 22:15:44 +0000 UTCI liked the idea of Vlad, but didn't think the mindwipe part was a good fit. Bringing in sentient people and creatures from alternate realities is a cool idea for rifts and worldbuilding. It explains how there can be such a wide variety of sentient beasts that have been integrated into society and opens the door for other races to pop up. Maybe instead of the mindwipe, Liz could breakdown what his options are when they realize he's sentient and aware of his situation.
