Digging the hole is exactly what I wanted to avoid. I was doing exactly that when I tried to fix the chapters.

I just wanted to say that I'm really impressed both that you took the risk to try your new idea and that you could admit the mistake and commit to a short backtrack. I think too many authors keep digging that hole hoping they can magic their way out of it and it shatters the total arc of the story, even if they manage to preserve that particular piece. You have such a strong foundation to your story that nobody will begrudge you some directional tweaks to make sure the whole structure is solid. I'm looking forward to the new chapters!

Just dont go on hiatus to do a rewrite. Best way to kill a novel. And if you are going to go on Hiatus you might as well write a bad end so there is some finality. Such as Matt gets assasinated so Liz swears death on everyone.

Don’t worry about scrapping the chapter. Most Web novels are essentially first drafts. It’s expected that you may want to change things.

I think it would be cool if at higher levels rifts with only a badass boss (no mobs) becomes more common.

Leaving them wouldn't have been the end of the world but they didn't quite fit. Just a bit more work for me now lol. It did have a bit to many references i agree.

I liked the oddness of the rift like the maze rift with the keys from earlier the boss fight just seemed to not work well with the power level that you would expect

The writing quality was there but I think what stood out to me was that at peak tier 4, they are just relatively too weak to encounter such an OP opponent as Vlad. What I really enjoy is seeing how they perform against their peers. Are they strong than other tier 4s... can they hack it against some tier 5s. them getting wrecked by a tier 10 or tier 20 is assumed.

I felt like they were pretty out of place as well and am happy with this direction. While I am not opposed to some references and call backs in a series, these chapters probably took it a tad too far though. They were fun, but more in a fan fiction way than an original story way. I very much look forward to the chapters in there place, everyone stumbles, and this wasn't a colossal failure, just a hiccup. One we can all laugh about later :)

Take your time. Writing cannot be rushed and you are pressuring yourself! The chapter seemed more fast-paced, almost like a list, where you checked specific events of.

The they didnt fit was my problem as well. And i tried for hours to make it work but couldn't. I had to either accept that they would stay and not be what i wanted or kill them off and start over on then them. The vibe wasn't right. The plot implications were also huge and im happy with not bringing that stuff up yet.

Yeah i think ill reuse the idea down the line at a Tier 15ish area. for now it will remain a interlude.

I'm glad you are rewriting the chapters. They weren't bad per se but somehow they didn't really fit it. What happened and was possible there for vlad to do had too much impact on the story as a whole. The was it is written there almost needed to be some sort of backlash from it.

Vampires had memory wipe as power (Drakula - by Bram Stoker). So it goes with the flow of the type of moster Vlad represents. It's the fact that he was too OP for a 5 tier rift boss that was the deal breaker. Still hope for you to keep him as a charcter.

Yeah i agree. He was supposed to be a great and powerful but that really dosen't fit at this time.

Maybe Vlad can appear later, when it makes more sense to encounter a powerful being. I think it had potential as a character but there was something about him that didnt fit entirely in the story. Wathever thing you end up doing I think it will be good
