2022-12-23 22:51:00 +0000 UTCThe real danger of Minkalla is the competitors, not the dungeon. This was not a life and death battle, and what frustrates me is that Matt gave away his identity. Being outed as Quill is not a problem, however inconvenient. The fact he used his legacy skill in conjunction with an unusual phantom armor skill gives up the game. Remember; phantom armor is a reserved reactive skill, it is not visible until someone attacks you.

2022-11-29 02:16:30 +0000 UTCYep, very common. It is also described to be a reserved skill that activates when someone strikes them, not a permanent channeled skill. Dead give away.

2022-11-29 02:10:13 +0000 UTCThey don't have the luxury yet. Remember super spy/assassination enemy organizations that is perfectly happy sending tier 24s to kill them before they get to tier 15. If they know how strong they are, if they know who they are. Matt and Liz are killing tier 15s+ as tier 11s, these two will win wars for the empire. All their enemies will do their best to prevent them from ever hitting tier 20, if they knew who they really are. As it is, they will now know he is Quill, and can figure out the rest. So the orders that the various enemy assassins which includes them as targets will be acted upon. Enough higher tier people (tier 14) will kill them. They are going to have issues now, and by hiding their real faces they can still walk through the empire safely, at least until they get to tier 25 and will no longer be allowed to fight in the wars.

2022-11-28 22:44:19 +0000 UTCphantom armor is a pretty common skill, first 2 high tier dudes we saw fighting way back when used it (mage and fighter variant)

2022-11-28 21:16:41 +0000 UTCNo that's never a smart thing to do. In a life and death fight you never hold back and try to hide your strength. It's been a stupid ideal since the tournament arc, if you're training for life and death fights you always use everything you can and train the exact same way you would fight. Which is the exact opposite of what they have been doing.

2022-11-27 23:40:31 +0000 UTCif he keeps using his armor. not gonna be hard to figure out he is Matt

2022-11-27 19:46:59 +0000 UTCHolding back strength is smart. You need to remember that the other winter cultivators are not their friends. A good chunk of them will try to kill them once this floor is over. There is no need to help them do so by risking yourself through exposing your secrets. Besides, the giving mana part isn't Quill, it's Matt. While it's ok for people to figure out that he's quill, it would end badly if someone figures out he's Matt.

2022-11-27 17:51:00 +0000 UTCI think Matt and Liz didn't really feel like they were facing death with so many others there to help out. And the risks of fully exposing themselves would definitely make their lives harder. They have been told repeatedly for decades that they have to hide their identities and to just throw that away for one fight seems counter-intuitive. Things might be different if they really felt that they were going to die but it is clear that they weren't really concerned about death during this fight. They are used to being super good and expect to get out of almost everything, injured maybe, but alive.

2022-11-27 03:42:34 +0000 UTCReally enjoyed the chapter. This felt like a really epic battle with life and death hanging in the balance. Unfortunately, that's also my problem with it. The main character/party is always holding back. They're faced with death and they never take it serious in a way someone with that much experience would be expected to. Matt could have allowed everyone around to have extra mana. He could have Cracked Mana Speared in a real way for a longer time. Not to mention the damage that setting off a Sword Rain could do to any of the enemy groups (like enemy snipers); especially once he made it known he was Quill. Liz could have Blood Golemed out. She could have tidal waved the city or the opposing force messing with Primus. Susanne could have used her almost Intent like she did during the tournament to counteract the General's Intent and Concept. This was the biggest life or death battle we've seen since the giant snake thing and all our main cast (except maybe Aster) went in at 75% and when they realized it was more serious kicked up to maybe 90%. I think that's probably the most frustrating thing in these type of situations. How are we the reader supposed to take the threat as seriously as the story tries to make it if the main characters don't?

2022-11-26 22:29:37 +0000 UTCAgree with this. Real sense of awe in the scale and magnitude of the Autumn general (in a way we don’t get from the Monarchs or a lot of the high tiers we’ve seen tbh) and how tough he was. I actually really enjoyed the meaningful challenge Matt faced and even how much it took from the winter team. (After Matt, truthfully, recognising he can bankroll a winter win single handedly).

2022-11-26 19:47:23 +0000 UTCGreat chapter. This was exceptionally refreshing: seeing an opponent that wasn't immediately steamrolled (and importantly, wasn't immediately steamrolled by *Matt*) really helped the tension to feel warranted. Sure, the moment where his quill-reveal fizzled could have used a bit more internal disappointment/perspective from him, but the overall implacability of the encounter was all the better for the fizzling. I loved the incremental try/fail/try again aspects, and the reliance upon teamwork to get the job done really made it feel like an earned success, against a foe where they were out of their depth, and *felt* out of their depth. This overall sense of long-odds really floated the chapter, to such an extent that the lengthy word count felt entirely present (and not just a blow-by-blow). Great stuff. Edit Suggestion: His once smooth skin was now oozing green puss ->His once smooth skin was now oozing green pus

2022-11-26 11:43:02 +0000 UTCI don't think Liz has any items that directly enhance her blood powers. Aster has several items that empower her ice powers; for example, her tiara and choker that she got from Minkalla. Now, the only growth items that Liz owns are the teleportation rings and her garden orb, items unrelated to her blood powers.

2022-11-26 03:44:06 +0000 UTCI think Matt's going to get his Intent last among the four, more likely Susanne is going to get her Intent Image/Phrase first.

2022-11-26 03:34:48 +0000 UTCI hope Aster keeps the "Princess of Frozen Stars" title when they leave. IIRC, they just need to pay for it. I really like the imagery.

2022-11-26 03:32:49 +0000 UTCI get that the main characters need to lose some precious items to make sure that the fight have actual consequences but I hate that Liz lose the gloves. As a blood mage, the glove is what makes Liz unique and truly OP (aside from her blood talent) by removing a blood mage’s weakness of needing to collect blood through a fight. In my opinion, the rewards they gotten so far is not worth losing Liz’s gloves for. I also would prefer if Matt is the one who lost the items (maybe losing his enchanted sword or gravity gauntlets) instead of Liz because Matt is more OP than any member of the group and he can easily change his fighting style. My hope is that Liz’s new regeneration concept ability will replace the gloves utility.

2022-11-26 03:20:00 +0000 UTCI do wish that reveal was a little more impactful, but I guess even the MC makes mistakes.

2022-11-26 02:09:03 +0000 UTCAmazing!!! Thanks for the great chapter! I actually like how Liz's is the main focus of this fight, Matt's like my fourth favorite character, with Aster at the top.

2022-11-26 01:40:20 +0000 UTCYeh, to me chapter just kinda felt underwhelming, and didn't really need the 11k words to get through this fight. But hey still loving the series

2022-11-26 01:17:56 +0000 UTCYeah the parts where his actions were repeatedly undone seemed like good opportunities to start touching on it.

2022-11-26 00:25:05 +0000 UTCI was hoping Matt would start touching the edge of his intent more from these conflicts. The previous hint at it was talking about protecting/fighting for the empire, and here we have a bunch of politicking pricks putting their fingers on the scale to kill his people. Really seems like he should feel something.

2022-11-25 23:34:18 +0000 UTCShout out Bradley and Diamond Lotus for being among the last fighters standing, god damn. Dozens of Elites fighting it and they barely won. Now imagine when they fight summer there will be a General and a full Fae army backing it up. Also, not for nothing, it was nice to see other delvers like Bradley and Diamond Lotus actually keep up with the gang in the fight with the General. I was worried Matt would do some weird ‘lol mana’ thing at it and we wouldn’t get this epic fight scene. And Matt was forced to reveal that he’s Quill which I’m sure won’t come back to haunt them at all.
