Wedding gift drawing

debating if I post this or not since it's personal but, I made a gift drawing for my godmother and her husband for their wedding. I took a photo from her ig that I liked of the two of them that didn't have the presence of alcohol (ha) and redrew it.

When I do drawings like this, I usually attempt draw it straight ahead with no under drawing. I'll do a roughs, research or thumbnail drawing, especially if it's for someone else or a portfolio piece. here I did a lot of iterating for their faces to figure out how to simplify the shapes. then when I'm ready I go right into the clean drawing. This approach has scared me a bit almost every time I do it, there's always a fear I'm gonna mess up or erase too much and fuck to the drawing, and so if I do I just start over on a new sheet. But I do it to create confidence and eventually be able to fearlessly draw for fun without a guide. That and the combo of drawing traditionally more has helped this, but I found it was stifling my output. So this time I did do a rough sketch of the pose then a cleaner drawing on top. I still want to build higher drawing confidence but I might reserve straight on drawing for studying or figure drawing. Finished work will be more open with making more rough sketches to scale rough drawings. I love this quote from Ian McCaig, "make a lot of drawings, only show the good ones and everyone will think you're a genius!"

This may sound neurotic and it probably is but I just want a system and process that gets me to the result I want without much hassle and always remember to have fun.
