Jan 2024...Dammit, 2025: A Year in Review

Happy New Year everyone! Another year of trying to remember to date things as 2025.

I want to thank everyone here for all your support and kind words over the past year. It has been an honor and a pleasure to share my work with you all and I can't thank you enough for your generosity. 

The state of events last year had me feeling bitter so I want to take more control for myself to create and accomplish more, and continue on my path of being financially sustainable from my work. I bought this beautiful planner that I love writing in from Marjolein Delhaas. I realized I do well with lists and even better if physical. I am trying to scroll less on my phone in order to take back my time as I know I have a problem with being distracted with my phone and social media. I want to disambiguate my calendar/planner from my phone in order to find more focus and clarity. And with my planner, I want it to make myself more accountable with my tasks but be realistic in what I can accomplish in a day as I had a habit of piling on tasks in one day that I could never finish. It doesn't work like that!

I've just returned home from holiday as I have been away in Iceland and Scotland for a few days with my mom. It's been a fun trip and I'm ready to hunker down and make the best work I can this year. With ECCC looming around the corner, I have to finish a couple new prints I'd like to have available by then.

I also plan to get back to the monthly drawing poll more consistently! I want to be able to offer more to my patrons in giving y'all a chance to see a character or subject with my take as well as quench my thirst for fan art! The previous winner was Elster from SIGNALIS.

I want everything to be simpler, less resistance in order to create more. I think reducing my social media intake has already helped with that. Not just scrolling is taking away precious drawing time it takes up mental bandwidth. If I'm consuming too much, it overloads my brain and create a fog and then I've lost the plot; my creativity is stifled and I'm not organically generating new ideas. I may have become fixated on what others are doing or how they're doing it. Don't worry about what others are doing! Of course, there is a time and place to take in but checking IG was a helpless reaction when I opened my phone until I deleted the app from my phone and keep it to a minimum until I figure out how I want to (or do not want to) continue on the platform.

This past year, I've really embraced and enjoyed my pencil drawings, digital and analog. I'm also proud of how much ive improved just by slowing down my drawing speed, I felt some kind of potential unlocking and gave me even more confidence in my drawings.

I'm chipping away at VANCE SUBPRIME as the pencils are aaalll done! We can officially move onto the inks!! I'll be showing pencils + inks as they are done as well unused drawings and concept art.

There's so much I have planned for this year; I want to make more fan art, and make more of a dent in my Sniper//GAL world-building project, finally do those Half-Life 2 Beta costume concepts I've been sitting on, and start making short animatics to music.
