Saying talk to me allows them to see and talk to the spirits, but the timer doesn't start until they give them permission to enter their body. Mia doesn't need someone to pull her out because she's not technically possessed. I also want to point out something that the movie kind of distracts from, but Mia herself went over the 90s time limit, and had seen the old man who wanted Riley. I think going over could have added to that stronger connection of her seeing things without the hand, and that man appearing to her as her mom to get her to kill Riley for him. MQ I actually don't think Riley's possession was that hopeless and that the brother from the beginning was right, they get weaker the longer they're out. In the end, Riley got better, and I think that had to do with time, but also maybe giving him the hand and blowing out the candle did close the door. They didn't need to say "I let you in" there because they were already inside of Riley. They just wanted to reconnect to the door again and effectively close it by blowing out the candle. I think that makes Mia's death more tragic, they made a point with the kangaroo to show us that she didn't have the heart to take a life, even when it was to put them out of their misery. So then she gets coerced into thinking that taking out Riley is being merciful when really, for him to get better, all she had to do was wait.

He definitely didn't deserve Jade talking about how much he was scared to sleep by himself and was crying to not be alone. That just made him feel embarrassed and tahe just added fuel to the fire for him to take that hand.

2025-10-31 20:45:43 +0000 UTCfor how on the nose the substance abuse - hand metaphor is, i'm surprised that a lot of people don't seem to pick it up. there was a whole montage of them basically getting high and having the time of their lives. Mia wants to use it to self medicate. Riley wants to tag along and do it to impress James and the big kids. it's shown to be destructive when abused, yet Joss and Hayley still distribute it for clout. and as Mia abuses it more and more she becomes more and more unhinged from reality, going down a self destructive path. people who expect a typical demonic possession movie probably would prefer something more traditional, but this was extremely smart and well done. the point of the movie was not the possession itself, it was more about growing up and the pressures/dangers of social media and clout chasing leading to drug use. the best horror movies are ones where the supernatural things parallel our real fears and struggles.

2025-10-31 20:36:47 +0000 UTCI tried, but wasn't a fan of this one. A few issues for me. The first one was just how annoying teens were. Second, the music in the background was quite irritating and made me want to mute parts of the movie. And three, some of the character actions didn't make sense. For instance, the "hyper Christian" guy who won't have sex before marriage or drink, yet he was all excited about holding the hand? Personally, I'm an atheist, but I don't think people who take their religion seriously would want to mess around with demons and evil spirits.
