I'm The Son Of Lucifer 09

"Thank you for meeting me, Fujiwara."

He smiled. "It's no trouble." It was a lot of trouble.

The more time he spent near the Ultimate Detective, the closer he got to losing. He wasn't a professional, he was bound to make little mistakes that she would notice, so he rather avoid contact entirely. Sadly, doing that after she outright called him would just make him come off as even more suspicious.

Kirigiri's gazs shifted to his companion. "And I see you have come too, Mai Sakurajima."

His senpai sighed. "This is about me after all, of course I came." They had actually debated if she should come or not.

In the end the two decided that she might as well. Kyoko clearly knew about his involvement with her, so there was no point in hiding it. Besides, Mai herself didn't see much reason to hide it in the first place. It's not like she knew he was a super criminal.

So he would just have to roll with the punches and somehow come out of this less suspicious sounding than when he had arrived.

The Ultimate Detective nodded. "Fair enough. Oh, feel free to order anything, I'll be paying." Fujiwara wasn't surprised that she had money to throw around.

While Hope's Peak didn't really have a salary to give to its students, it did say it would fund their exploits. Since she was definitely here to do detective work, this probably counted as acceptable by their standards.

He smirked. "Well, that's nice, but don't you want to leech off Senpai? She's totally loaded." He wasn't going to bring up the fact that he also wasn't exactly struggling for money.

Mai glared at him. "I wouldn't mind paying for a junior, but do you reall—."

Kyoko quickly cut the two off. "It's fine. As I said, I'll pay." He had been trying to be humorous, but he had definitely failed. There was not a single hint of a smile on her face...

She didn't seem particularly annoyed either however. Either she wasn't very emotional, or she was the type of person who was always completely serious during a job. Either way, it meant it would be harder to get a glimpse of her strengths and weaknesses.

As the Ultimate Detective suggested, the two sat down and ordered. A single coffee for each, they were trying to be polite since they weren't paying and all.

While they waited, Fujiwara decided to get the real conversation rolling. "So, I'm just gonna come out and ask. You're weirded out about Senpai... disappearing, aren't you?" There was no point in delaying it.

Though maybe he should have. Mai looked strangely nervous about this, while he didn't. It probably made things look funny from Kyoko's perspective.

Still, the Ultimate Detective pressed on. "Yes. I would like to take on this case." She shifted her gaze to Mai. "And I mean officially. I will utilize police resources and the like." And then the world would probably learn about the supernatural.

That was... worrying. Or maybe it wasn't. The truth is that Fuyuki didn't really know what kept the supernatural from being discovered, but clearly something existed for it. There was simply no way everyone had just agreed to not tell everyone for thousands of years.

Mai's eyes widened. "Really...!?" Relying on a single super-powered teenager, only to go up to something like this must have seemed like quite the upgrade.

Hah... being thrown away like trash hurt Fujiwara's pride just a tad.

Kyoko nodded. "Yes. But before that I would like to make some questions to you two... Like for example, Fujiwara-Senpai, how did you stumble upon this? Why do you remember Mai Sakurajima?" And there came the question he was dreading.

Mostly because he really, really didn't want to reveal he was a mage. Because if he didn't, there was always a chance Kyoko would forget about Mai, and then presumably she would drop the case. However, she would possibly retain any information about himself.

Though then again, since she was the Ultimate Detective, maybe having memories of a supposed boy for no reason would be actually worse. Not to mention how Fujiwara did plan upon eventually helping Mai.

Before he could reply however, Mai metaphorically jumped on the bullet. "Maybe because he's close friend? My parents, and my sister haven't forgotten me either. Not yet at least." She crossed her arms. "And it's not like everyone has forgotten me either. You're an example."

Ah, this cute bunny girl senpai was trying to protect her junior. She made it clear that she was on his side earlier, so maybe he shouldn't be surprised. But still, he would like a warning, especially since he wasn't sure her lie wouldn't crack in five second.

Kyoko tilted her head. "You're right about the latter." Not she wasn't. Once Kyoko realized how areas worked, she would realize he was in one where people had already forgotten her. And then he would be fucked.

She continued. "But about the first part... I wasn't aware that you had such a close friend, and I... know this is probably coming off as alarming, but I know quite a bit about you Mai Sakurajima."

Mai shrugged. "I'm not surprised. I'm an actress." The actress really. "However, do not assume you know everything about m—."

"I also know your mother forgot you." The air became colder. "I called many members of your family, she does not remember you. Your father and your half-sister still do, but that's it for now." Huh.

How would her two parents react if a sudden conversation about Mai came up? Since one didn't remember, but the other did?

Well, it wasn't the time to be thinking about that.

Instead, Fujiwara slowly shifted his gaze to Mai. "Is she... saying the truth?" Maybe it was a case where it happened during school hours? He didn't actually know where her parents lived, so any talk about their areas was out.

The girl gave a weak nod. "Yeah."

He let out a sigh. "I see..." He wanted to ask why she didn't talk about it, but the reason was all over her face. Mai simply didn't want to acknowledge the fact her own mother had forgotten her.

Kyoko cut through the room like a uncaring knife. "Anyhow, as one can see closeness does not matter. Which brings up why you lied to me about Fujiwara-Senpan."

Fujiwara glared at her. "Are you for real right now? Can't you see Senpai isn't feeling well right now?" He ended up snapping at the detective. He was a pretty monstrous person, but that did mean he particularly enjoyed other monsters.

Mai bit her lip. "It's fine Fujiwara. I'm over it." She clearly wasn't it.

She shook her head. "By the way, Ultimate Detective..." She said the title with way more malice than he thought possibly. "Your accusation of me lying is wrong, because... because I wasn't close with my mother at all."

She clicked her tongue. "I hate that old hag. If nothing else, this forgetting thing actually made that relationship better." Fujiwara wasn't sure he bought that...

Kyoko didn't argue back. "I see, my apologies then." The conversation died, nobody willing to say anything.

Still, once their order arrived, Fujiwara made his decision. He faked a sigh of annoyance. "Fine... I'll admit it." He was going to turn this attempt to protect him into a victory. Or at least try to.

Mai glared at him. "You are? Did your brain melt?" Oh? Did she feel spited because he was throwing her protection away?

Welp, he wouldn't have done it if her story wasn't so easily crackable. "My brain is working just fine, but that probably won't apply to Kirigiri if she's not working with the full context here. I won't hold you back like that." Yeah, as if.

The truth is that Kyoko was bound to figure out his place in the world, so it was better to come out in his own terms. Besides, the fact that now he was confessing to protect a friend made him look way better. In that way her really appreciated her attempt.

Even if she was doing without the knowledge that he was a monster. "Kirigiri, I'm part of the supernatural. That's what we are hiding."

Her body tensed, for just a bit. "I figured." Hah, she definitely had never bought Mai's excuses huh?

Still, her reaction was a bit weird. Soon after she had calmed down, but had she shown a bit of fear there? He supposed that was to be expected from a normal, but he had guessed she was being watched by bodyguards from somewhere... Well, since she didn't know his limits, her fear was probably justified even if his assumptions were correct.

Mai pouted. "You two are awful."

He awkwardly chuckled. "Sorry Senpai, but as your oldest and closest friend who you met less than a weak ago, it's my responsibility to protect you. Recruited mega detectives counts as protection."

Without a doubt, if he wasn't a criminal piece of shit, Kyoko would have been a godsend for their little investigation. Even if this was a unusual case for her, those crazy resources granted by Hope's Peak alone made her a worthy addition.

A slight smile appeared on the Ultimate Detective's face. "You're making the right decision, Fujiwara." Was that the smile of someone who now trusted him, or the smile of someone who now knew who had kidnapped two people recently?

He grinned. "I typically do. Anyways, so the way I met Senpai over here was pretty simple..."

He began to go over their meeting, explaining how the vision of supernatural things worked, and about his invisible teacher. Naturally, much like with Mai, he had kept everything being demonic a secret.

Once it was over, Kyoko put a hand to her chin. "This is all... very interesting." Her mind was probably being blown right now. "So, are you helping Mai Sakurajima out of the goodness of your heart?" Or maybe not.

He waved her off. "Nope. Mai and I have a deal."

"What deal?" Her response came out amazingly fast.

Mai interjected. "A deal." She was blushing for some reason. "One that does not relate to the case, and so you don't need to know." How adorable, someone was scared to admit she accepted pimping out an actress.

Kyoko sighed. "Very well, then I shall begin treating Fujiwara-Senpai as a private investigator." He did not know how those actually worked. "It's my hope we can all work together however." Probably because she was very lost over this whole supernatural thing.

Or maybe not. For all he knew, Kyoko Kirigiri was completely aware of the supernatural and its mechanics, but probably not... "I hope we can work together. There is something I should tell you, however."

He continued. "First of all, I still don't really know if physical proof of Mai won't get destroyed eventually, I hadn't had enough time to test it. So don't be surprised if any physical records of this case disappear." He really hoped his bunny picture survived.

"Also, revealing the supernatural is a big no-no... I think. My teacher doesn't really talk about it, but considering it's not something every average joe knows about, clearing keeping it a secret is a unwritten rule." He actually did hope she tried to reveal it.

Not because he wanted her to succeed, but because she now couldn't use ignorance on why she did it. Which meant maybe if she tried to do it, he could throw Satan at her.

Though this plan wasn't exactly stable. For all he knew Satan would blame both for this mess and punish both, or alternatively he wouldn't care at all. Not to mention how he didn't even know what this hypothetical punishment would entail.

He could have had her trying to expose the supernatural without knowing it was wrong of course, but he was scared such a thing would make Satan pissed off at him.

Kyoko took a moment to consider her options. "Very well, I shall learn more of this world before I bring the police into it." And like that, she dodged an enormous bullet. "And speaking of learning, what powers do you have?"

"None. At least not yet. I'm slowly developing one." He could only hope it would be something useful to crush Kirigiri.

Mai snorted. "Knowing you, it's going to be something both useless, and perverted." He would actually be pretty happy with the latter.

Kirigiri ignored her. "Okay, but how does one develop powers?" And there it was. A question he had actually been expecting from Mai, but the Ultimate Detective ended up being the one to ask.

Naturally, since he thought it was something Mai could ask, he had developed an answer for it. "It's a bit complicated. Just interacting with the supernatural will do it though... but in my case it helps that I have supernatural ancestors too, so don't go in expecting to get powers out of this."

Kyoko looked down. "What a shame. I had hoped Sakurajima-Senpai could have developed a power of her own and become immune to this... curse." That would be nice.

If nothing else it was something he would keep in mind, although he doubted she would actually agree to become a devil with him. Not to mention how he didn't know if she would actually become immune.

Mai's face became filled with annoyance. "I don't think I would enjoy entering this world." Couldn't be any worse than the entertainment industry.

The Ultimate Detective nodded. "Understandable." She then looked at the boy. "This may come off as intrusive, but before I leave, can I get whatever you have manage to scrunch up for this investigation."

Mai nodded, giving permission before Fujiwara could. "Sure, but only after you tell us how you knew of our connection." Wasn't it obvious? Welp, Mai was probably just trying to confirm things.

"I saw you two talking at the entrance of the school." Yep, as expected.

After that ordeal was over, Fujiwara handed over what he had found of the investigation so far. Including the knowledge of areas, and the fact that it had started at his school. He also gave her the numbers he had collected.

Kyoko seemed satisfied. "Fine work for amateurs." What a backhanded compliment... "Still, if the threat began on that school, I could get the authority for you two to skip some days. For safety." Huh.

That sounded like a great offer, but...

Before he could say his opinion, Mai denied it. "I'll pass. Running away won't fix this." Crazy words for someone who was totally planning to run away before Fujiwara had interjected with blackmail.

He was on her side though. "I'm of the same sentiment. Also, my teacher doesn't like it when I skip school." Even if he had the okay to do it, he would probably still be mad.

Also, wasn't it crazy that a student could do this!? Just how powerful was Hope's Peak!? Actually, letting a few students miss a few days was small when compared to having fingers with the police that a teenager could use.

Kyoko immediately glared at him. "From what I understand you tend to skip school quite a lot."

Ah shit. He made a mistake. Since he had managed to get so far without being outed as a piece of shit kid of Lucifer, he ended up getting just a bit too comfortable. Joking was fine, but he had to watch what he said.

He had to come up with something. Quickly. "Yep. I tend to disobey my teachers." That wasn't the strongest of excuses... "That includes school ones, and supernatural ones."

Mai interjected. "It doesn't surprise me. You're a slob, even if you don't look like one." Ah... mama Mai to the rescue again. Maybe her words could help.

In the end, Kyoko seemed to accept it. "I see. Well, if the two of you want to keep going that's fine." But he didn't accept that she had accept it, she was definitely still onto him.

As soon as this mess was over, he would skip a few days. Satan would get mad, but he would just tough it out.

The Ultimate Detective kept going. "Also, I will be contacting you two and relaying what I uncovered. Make sure to send backup messages of whatever I sent, in case evidence begins to be destroyed, or I forget the case."

"Sounds good... Does this mean that we are free to leave?

"Yes. I hope we have good partnership from now on."

"So, what did you think about her, Senpai?"

Mai had a massive scowl on her face. "She's annoying." Was she? For Fuyuki she came out more as cold than anything else. As one would expect from the Ultimate Detective.

He snorted. "Wow. Well, you were pretty combative against her." He couldn't help, but wonder why. He of all people had come off as friendlier.

The girl huffed. "She was the combative one?" Was she?

Well, maybe in the perception of Mai Sakurajima she was. This was just a theory, but... His senpai had become pretty defensive of him, and considering she was a mega loner, maybe she just defended whatever friends she could find with all her strength. Since Kyoko was suspicious of Fujiwara, she counted as an enemy.

How pathetically adorable. "Huh, my Senpai is pretty cute... Stop tempting a guy who has a girlfriend." Who Kyoko didn't actually bring up. Surprising.

His Senpai sputtered. "Where did that come from? Please don't tell me you already forgot that promise you made." He hadn't of course. But he had a feeling she herself would be forgetting it soon.

He chuckled to himself. "Don't worry, I'm not forgetting that promise, or forgetting you anytime soon." Loners were way too easy.

He was surprised some above average girl wasn't dragging Hikigaya around and using him like a slave yet.

AN: This was actually a commission... Honestly, I was unsure if I should accept a comission for a main story, but since the buyer just wanted me to write whatever chapter I wanted I accepted it.

Also, big bucks baby!
