I Turned My Life Into A VN 03
Added 2025-03-12 21:27:13 +0000 UTC"So, how do you want to go about this, Tohsaka?" Shinsuke was talking about their assignment, of course.
He could clearly see this was just another setup for him to get closer to his first chosen heroine. Which he did appreciate. That said, he also wanted to take this assignment seriously, because otherwise his dad would have his ass.
"Um..." Rin couldn't immediately respond.
This was messy. Should she give up on summoning her Servant for tonight? It's not like she would be permanently kicked out from the Holy Grail War if she did so. Still, she had wasted hours preparing the ritual already, and tonight everything would be under the perfect conditions.
The obvious solution would naturally be to just skip doing work this one time. Her grades were excellent, so it wouldn't matter. And even if she did want the boost to her grades, she could always use her status as the school's idol and ask for some boy to do her part this one time as a favor.
But this was Rin Tohsaka. Anything less than perfection was unacceptable.
So she would finish this stupid group project. "Well, there's not much to really plan. We can do the group project at my house."
She didn't actually want any visitors, but it couldn't be helped. The plan was simple, they would finish work as fast as possible, and then once Shinsuke left, she would summon her Servant. Yes, now that she thought about it, she had been making mountains out of molehills.
"Are you sure about that, Tohsaka? A guy visiting a girl's home is a bit..." It was funny coming from him of all people.
But even in VNs you could mess up things. Shinsuke couldn't lose Rin per se, but he could make her sad. And he would rather avoid that. Besides, he wasn't sure he was ready to meet her parents.
"Sure." She nodded. "Not to say I don't understand what you're trying to say, but to be honest, I feel safer at my own home."
Not that she exactly felt unsafe at his home either. She was a magus, Shinsuke was... she wouldn't say he looked weak, but he wasn't part of any sports clubs. But doing it at her house was more convenient for her.
And so it was settled. "I get ya. So... let's go?"
"Sure—"
"Oi! Yamaguchi!" But there could be no peace in this land.
There was no reality where Rin Tohsaka and Shinsuke Yamaguchi would just get to go to her house and do this project peacefully. Not with the prince of the stars, Shinji Matou, on the prowl! Much like before, he had heard certain rumors and decided that war was the only solution to this dilemma.
Rin immediately frowned. She did not want to deal with Shinji right now.
Shinsuke immediately glowed. He really wanted to gloat at Shinji right now. The best part being that he wouldn't even have to say anything for that gloating. Just existing and being near Rin was probably enough.
He waved at Shinji. "Hey Matou! Do you need something?"
"I need to give you another bloody nose, is what I need!" Shinji immediately started out with a mistake.
Not only was he coming off as extremely aggressive from the get-go, he was also confessing to being aggressive previously. Something which Rin Tohsaka did not approve of at all. She always knew Shinji was kind of an asshole, but she didn't think he would actually physically hurt someone until now.
Something had been at the back of her mind for a while now... the bandage on Shinsuke Yamaguchi's nose. She now knew the cause.
Shinsuke faked surprise. "Eh? What did I do?"
Shinji immediately grabbed him by the collar. "You're around Tohsaka! Again!" Typically he actually wouldn't be so forward.
But he had already beaten up Shinsuke before, so he saw the boy as prey and himself as the aggressor. It was, in some way, the same mentality he used around his own adopted sister.
There was one problem, though.
Rin Tohsaka was literally right there. "Um...? And what's the issue with Yamaguchi being near me, Matou?" Her voice was dripping with concealed venom.
She knew why Shinji was reacting like this, she knew Shinji Matou liked her. But she hoped once he himself had to say his excuse out loud, he would notice how absolutely ridiculous he looked right now.
"Well, Tohsaka...!" Shinji was about to shout, but surprisingly, he held himself back. Taking a deep breath to calm down. "I... I'm sorry about this, Yamaguchi, my bad." He released the boy and apologized.
One might see such a thing and wonder if perhaps Shinji had just been killed and replaced by an alien, but that was very much not the case. The truth is that he was popular for a reason and knew when to back off. To some extent at least.
Yamaguchi sent him a thumbs-up. "It's alright." He didn't want to be in bad waters with Sakura's brother anyways.
This was interesting though. The fact that Shinji was involved with two routes.
Would this mess with Rin ever have happened if Shinsuke had never coined Sakura? He couldn't tell, but it was certainly something worth keeping in mind.
Shinji put a hand on his hair and messed with it. "But Tohsaka, you know that all types of crazy rumors are flying around about you and Yamaguchi, right? Should you really encourage that by hanging around him?"
Rin actually didn't know about those rumors, funnily enough. Her only source of news was Ayako, so if she didn't talk about it, Rin didn't know about it. That said, she wasn't an idiot, she knew something like that must have started happening after... the incident.
Shinsuke tried to wave him off. "Well, it's not like—" He was going to explain the group project.
But Rin interrupted him. "I don't really care about any of these supposed rumors, Matou." Just as she didn't care about Shinji's opinion of her.
Sure, she could explain to the seaweed that she was hanging out with Shinsuke solely due to a group project, but that would feel like... like bending to Shinji's whims. And just thinking about that made her feel disgusted.
Shinji clicked his tongue. "Tsk, sure. Whatever." He then shifted his gaze towards Yamaguchi. "And you? Do you really want people hounding you about Tohsaka?"
"You're the only one who has hounded me about Tohsaka." Which was certainly surprising!
As it turns out, most students of Homuraha weren't insane, paranoid, or control freaks. Who could have guessed?
"And apparently your hounding turned physical." Rin crossed her arms, glaring at Shinji. "Don't think I'm stupid or blind, Matou. You don't get to go around hurting people."
She actually didn't care, but she owed Shinsuke Yamaguchi, and Shinji had apparently gone after him because of her. So it was only fair that she defended him from the pest.
Or at least that was the excuse she told herself. The truth is that Rin was just a softie.
Shinji glared right back. "Are you serious, Tohsaka? This guy... he's just a normal guy. Are you going to stick out your head to defend him?"
"You talk as if you're threatening me, Matou." She took a step forward. He took a step back. "So, am I sticking my neck out for someone right now, Matou?"
"You... Ugh, whatever. Fine!" He began walking away. "Do whatever you want, Tohsaka! See if I care!" He cared. This wasn't over.
Shinsuke wasn't focusing on that though. Instead he was wondering why Shinji went out of his way to call him normal. Whatever that was supposed to mean. Was it just a popular kid thing? Or maybe it was something about the financial status of his family.
He supposed it didn't matter right now. "Huh. Thanks for that, Tohsaka."
"No need to thank me. If anything, I've been the one causing you trouble." First that incident and now this.
She couldn't help but wonder if Shinji had ever hurt any other boy or girl who had confessed to her. She had received plenty of love confessions in the past, so if that was the case, Shinji would have hurt a lot of people...
"You didn't cause troubles. Shinji is just..." Shinsuke paused, looking for the right words. "He's Shinji."
She giggled. "True, but..." Her face became serious once again. "I'm guessing he hurt you?"
Shinsuke nodded. "Yep, but I got saved by his sister. Apparently I'm a magnet towards heroic actions." You know, having girls constantly come to his rescue made him feel like he was the heroine here.
Rin's eyes widened. "His sister—" She shouldn't focus on that. She shouldn't. Shinji's sister was Shinji's sister. "By the way, Yamaguchi, do you want to pass through your house to warn your parents?" She changed the topic insanely fast.
"Nah, no need. I've got a phone, so I'll just call."
"Woah, how modern."
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Rin's house wasn't too far from Homuraha, and typically she got home just before the sun set.
But that wasn't the case this time. Not only had she spent precious minutes chatting with Shinsuke on school grounds instead of immediately leaving home, she had also just walked slower today. An effect that came due to showing a stranger the way.
So night had fallen before she reached her house, and in Fuyuki, the night could be very dangerous.
A sense of death washed over Rin and Shinsuke. A Rin-type event had started!
It was funny. Although she was a magus, she froze even more completely than he did. Was that her inexperience showing? Or perhaps her nature? Most likely both.
"Oh my... Look at what I found." A living fairy suddenly showed up.
Or at least that's how Shunsuke described her in his mind. She was no fairy though, what stood before them was a homunculus, Illyasviel Von Einzbern. Her Servant, Heracles, was dutifully guarding her, even if he currently wasn't materialized.
Shinsuke broke through the air of bloodlust and waved at the little girl. "Y-yo!"
Rin had immediately noticed the Servant, but there was no way Shinsuke could have done the same. Still, one should not underestimate the survival instincts of a human. He just knew something was wrong here.
The little girl actually seemed shocked, and it was debatable if she had even noticed him at all. Her attention had been given completely to Rin until now.
Shinsuke cleared his throat. "So... what did you find...?" He raised a shaky smile. "Is it Rin? Is Rin your... buddy?"
The Rin in question sent him an incredulous look. She didn't know if she should be impressed at his ability to ignore this much bloodlust or exasperated at it. There was one thing she knew for sure though, Shinsuke was insane.
In his defense, however, it was hard to jump to the conclusion that the loli in front of him had a Greek murder machine. So instead he assumed she was a rich acquaintance of Rin or something.
He at least knew they weren't related. Probably. The little girl looked foreign.
A smile slowly spread out across the little girl's face. "Yes. Rin is my buddy. And you are...?" Surprisingly, the bloodlust in the area began to grow weaker.
The truth is that the little girl had never intended to kill Rin right here and now. She was a good little girl who followed rules and would give her opponents the chance to summon their Servants. Instead, all she would do is give her a scare.
Which, by looking at Rin's face, she could see that that had been accomplished.
"I'm Shinsuke Yamaguchi! A classmate of Rin." He slowly began to feel calmer. "Nice to meet ya."
Why had he even been scared of a little girl in the first place!? The little girl should be the one scared of him, considering he could coin her right here and now! Not that he would do it.
But he could.
He wouldn't do it, though.
But he could if he wanted to.
But he would pass for now.
But it was within his capabilities. And when you think about it—
Before he could somehow convince himself to adopt the groomer style, the little girl finally introduced herself, bowing. "Nice to meet you. My name is Illyasviel Von Einzbern."
Hah... there was no way he could pronounce that!
Illyasviel looked at Rin. "So, why are you hanging around with some classmate now of all times? Don't you have... business to attend to?"
Tohsaka looked away. "I..." A very small blush appeared on her face. "A teacher assigned us a group project, and we have to hand it over by tomorrow, so..."
Damn Taiga Fujimura! Right now, Rin hated her with all her heart. Not only was she going to be killed because of this group project, Illyasviel would now also get the opportunity to humiliate her!
As one would expect, Illya was... shocked, to say the least. "I... see. Well, I didn't expect much from a Tohsaka anyways."
"A Tohsaka?" Shinsuke interjected. "Is this something I should be here for...?"
He was beginning to piece together the situation. Illyasviel's family and Rin's family must be business partners or something. The little girl's outfit just screamed rich, so he didn't doubt it.
Illyasviel smirked. "No. You should not. Don't worry though, it's just some family business, right, Rin?"
So he had hit the jackpot...! Still, it was weird to see a little girl of all things talk about business. Her family must trust her a lot. Or alternatively, she was just talking nonsense, but Rin had to nod and smile due to their family ties.
"Yes..." Rin didn't know what was going on.
Why had Illyasviel not killed them? Was she just toying with them?
"Anyways!" The girl swayed side-by-side. "Since you're busy, Rin, I'm going to go home! See you another day!" She waved at Shinsuke. "Bye, mister!"
She had enough fun. The thought of turning Shinsuke into red mist to taunt Rin did cross her mind, but she decided against it in the end. Illyasviel was a sadistic person, but she didn't have anything in particular against Rin. In the end there was some truth to what she said, it was just family business.
"Bye...?" Shinsuke awkwardly waved goodbye to her.
And Rin didn't even bother to do that. She was just happy she was being spared. Though her guard was still up, just in case the Einzbern was secretly playing cat and mouse with her.
Alas, Rin Tohsaka did not need to worry. Illyasviel was truly leaving...
Or at least she was, until Shinsuke opened his big mouth. "Is it really safe for you to just leave, though?"
"Hm?" Illya stopped in her tracks.
"I mean, it's... night." And considering some weird accidents had been happening in Fuyuki lately, Shinsuke didn't feel comfortable letting a little girl wander around at such an hour. "Can you tell me your parents number? I can call them to pick you up." His flip phone would save the day!
At least that was what he was thinking.
Rin was thinking that the day had just been ruined by an idiot who couldn't read the room. Meanwhile, Illyasviel was wondering how Japan produced such an idiot incapable of reading the room. Great brains truly thought alike.
"No need for that." Well, at least Illya was entertained. "It's true that I'm alone, but I know my way back home."
"Right..." He didn't buy that for one second. "Why did your parents even let you leave anyways—"
"My parents are dead." And just like that, Shinsuke immediately felt incredibly sorry.
"O-oh, I'm sorry to hear that..." He really dug himself in a role here...
The girl shrugged. "It's fine, my maids take care of me." She really was rich! "So it's no big deal. Besides, we don't really have phones anyways. I... appreciate the offer, however."
Illyasviel wasn't exactly happy about being treated like a little girl, but it was clear Shinsuke didn't know any better. So she would just take the spirit of it and accept that he only wanted to help.
Rin put her hand on her hips and let out a fake sigh. "Ah? What a shame. I guess we can't help then—"
"Actually..." Shinsuke raised an arm. "We could like... walk her back to her house at least."
Rin immediately pulled him closer, whispering. "Yamaguchi, you can't be serious...! We have work to do." She knew she was breaking her facade of perfection, but it couldn't be helped.
Yamaguchi whispered back. "C'mon, Tohsaka. She's like... twelve." He genuinely couldn't tell. "What if... what if a creep attacks her or something?" He was the creep here, actually.
"Fuyuki is not that dangerous, Yamaguchi. Nobody is going to attack a little girl!" And if they did, they would die.
Shinsuke sighed. "Rin, haven't you been watching the news recently? Fuyuki is absolutely not safe." And besides, a few years ago there was some guy who went around kidnapping kids.
Even in small cities like these, horrible stuff still happened occasionally.
"No, I haven't been watching the news, I don't even own a TV....! But listen—"
Before Rin could continue, Illyasviel interrupted the duo. "What are you two whispering about?" She had found their antics amusing at first, but now the homunculus was genuinely curious.
Shinsuke split off from Rin. "We were talking about walking you home, since it's pretty late."
Rin wanted to commit homicide. "Yes, but I'm sure such a thing isn't necessary, right, Einzbern...?"
"Well..." It wasn't, obviously. And taking them there would mean revealing her base to Rin, but... "I don't know, I'm staying pretty far from here. Are you sure you guys are up to the task...?" But she wanted to torment Rin!
Shinsuke smiled and nodded. "Of course!"
"Yay!" Illyasviel smiled from ear to ear. "Then I'll be counting on you, Mister Shinsuke!" She liked him. He gave her... opportunities.
"R-right." This wasn't good.
His heart skipped a beat just now. Illyasviel sure was dangerous. He wouldn't coin her though, she was a kid after all, and he wasn't into that. He wasn't scum— Wait, he totally was scum.
Still, Illyasviel would be his third heroine, and he still didn't know if he could handle two, never mind three— But if routes connected, like it did with Shinji, did it matter?
Especially since Illyasviel actually seemed connected to Rin. Which brought another thing to his mind, this cute brat was probably loaded. Or would be once she grew up.
And sure, he had coined Rin and Sakura already with the intention of leeching off their cash, but having another sugar mommy was never a bad thing. Even if that sugar mommy wasn't even half-mommy—
No, he needed to be smart about this.
"Yamaguchi, stop spacing out." Rin got his attention. "I guess we're doing this..." She mumbled to herself in defeat.
If Illyasviel didn't kill them, she might kill Yamaguchi.
"Yep, yep, yep!" Illyasviel ran towards them and had the gall to grab a hand of Rin's and a hand of Shinsuke's. "Did you know that I'm staying at a castle, Mister Shinsuke?"
"Seriously!?" Ah... This wasn't good. Getting dragged around by a little girl was dangerous.
"Yes! It's super cool." She grinned. "I can't wait to show it to you..." Although she had spoken to the boy, her words were meant for Rin.
It was a power move in a way. Feel free to know my base, I just don't care.
Shinsuke didn't know about that though, all he could see was a brat grinning, but he wouldn't waste a coin nonetheless— Oops, he summoned the coin to his free hand.
Oops, he said a quick prayer in his thoughts.
Oops, Illyasviel became the third heroine.
What a horrible accident! It should be okay though. After all, Illyasviel was still a bratty brat, he would only really need to worry about her a few years from now.
Besides, what kind of VN didn't have a loli!?

AN: I'm building up the early chapters, and I figured it shouldn't do any harm to release them here as they get ready.
Anyways, Illya get. I was originally gonna keep going with the gag of Shinsuke always stopping himself right before coining her, but I figured if it kept going it would stop being funny and start being frustrating for the Illya heads out there.
