Art Reveal| WTF is the Barbie Effect?

How do I Explain…

Okay, so my other characters like Boba Kitti, Brown Suga, Maggie Shrooms, Lang, and more— are characters that most of you may have no clue about (my bad). Honestly, there maybe a lot more people that are unaware of their presence— but I hope that will change.

Tip: Prompts + Barbie Effect

A great way to conquer art block is creating random prompts. Now I hate admitting this but, it’s obvious Caleb isn’t the most creative character out of the bunch— She’s more of a model for everything. Now this is where you’ll learn about what I call, The Barbie Effect :

Barbie is the poster child and a literal depiction of her own slogan. She has been a mermaid, a doctor, chef, astronaut and etc. Characters and Entities like Barbie are designed truly to be “perfect and relatable ” in some form:

• You would use this type of character for branding and warm up practice,
• Also known as a blank canvas, model and, Chamaeleon. — this character is seen as never boring and will adapt to any story and situation.
• 

 So creating these prompts, I was able to design some “ interesting” characters. As I experimented with my style, I explored with making animations, comic’s, and now toy design— I think it’s time to expand on their lore and adjust character designs a bit. My goal was to always turn what I created into more than just concept illustrations; I’m really just looking forward to seeing where these characters will go.

So, Boba kitti— a concept created during a time when, i was going coo-coo for coco puffs ( BOBA ) and ironically, I was thinking about adopting a cat. Also during this time, there was this large, cute craze for artist that had this adorable (80’s-90’s) anime-jelly style; with simple, geometrical, playful illustrations that seemed almost refreshing to the eyes. I really wanted to see what this style would look like but, done in my style.

To be honest, I was a bit intimidated to post some of those images on my instagram. Even though, not all these images are released every where, you can still find images on portfolios and other socials that I haven’t posted to m man accounts— most of these earlier pieces focused on Anthro* ( anthropomorphic) like characters. This year, Im hoping this project really will display my creative side a bit more.

Actually, before I start doing Lives here exclusively, I want to run a few test over on instagram, Facebook and tiktok first. Thursday, January 12th will start our journey. We’ll be drawing a few Inx’s, answer a few art questions and even give out tips and chat. So join Thursday and draw along with me. * Duration 30min-1hr

Wrapping up todays reveals—if it wasn’t obvious, this month’s sticker is inspired, by the warm ups below. I wouldn’t necessarily call these warm ups, since I think for the most part, warm-ups usually take up no more than 5-10 mins of your time. So after an hour ( 30 mins for each treat), it was very much clear, that this month cactus cow and friends was going to help me expand my portfolio. While doing the concept art, I realized I hadn’t drawn in a Realistic style in a while; and I found this to be quite relaxing. So our first round of concept art will focus on a lot of desserts and animal hybrids. Also here is a sneak peak of one of this months freebie coloring sheet.
