Continuing with part 2 of my favorite parts of these (2) illustrations— I’ll continue and start with wanting to know what do y’all like watching? LIke I’m a complex being. I tend to have a lot of Exceptions but honestly I could watch anything— I’m this type of person…
“I can’t watch this unless… XYZ”.
However, my top 3 things I cant resist is anything that is animated. It’s a plus if it’s a comedy— comedies are my favorite genre. Secondly, A good old parody. Once again comedies are my Favorite. Like any genre can be watched, as long as there is a heavy influence of Comedy partnering along side. Lastly, Documentaries. True crime has always been my fave. Even, well made, corny crime shows are enjoyed — Criminal minds and law and order being Classics. But shows like Bates motel, pretty little liars, deadly women, Good girls and snapped would describe the vibe I often lean towards ( and I’m aware some of those are more classified as m*rder/thriller- dramas but you catch my drift). TELL ME YOUR FAVS BELOW.

Keeping the train moving— this is my chibi style. I thought providing Two styles this month would keep me busy and motivated. Sometimes I find it hard to maintain focus on one style. So hopefully this remains interesting. My favorite Part about my chibi style is the eyes and brows. They‘re very bold and thick — and I usually prefer the sketch stage of my process. If you every really pay attention to my style of art — the line work sometimes never leaves the very first 2 to 3 stages to my art process.
To keep this on theme — cartoons have a heavy influence on my art. Thanks to artist like Bob Schooley and Mark McCorkle, the animators and creators of Kim possible, I’ve been able to really use their influence on my art. If you looked at the lips on this character or any character I’ve drawn, then yes— the character designs for Kim possible really changed the definition of what it took to be a IT GIRL and having two tone lips. Thus, this would become the blue print and the must I needed to make my style, my style.
Now knowing how important other artist are to one another, its fun to note, that at this stage I was in love. Im often reminded that this stages is often peoples favorite, and that’s why I adore these stages the most— they‘re simple and I’m lazy. Nothing has to be perfect and as a artist I firmly believe that…
“An artist knows when their work is completed.”
So why can’t I sometimes just frame my favorite parts?! I can and will and other artisn’t should, too. I try to also add simple lines to represent finer details. This would help make the art look more interesting and eye-catching. This organics way of drawing also allows me to get away with things that should be a bit more detail. Like if you don’t know how to draw hands— the goals is to draw a silhouette that looks as close to what you’re trying to aim for. So I hope that the little things that I do inspire others and they apply these things to their style.
Now at this point, I have all the base colors and what I needed to get to this stage. TBH, As I started this journey ( on social Media ) <Yes, I had stages and a process but, I did things at Free will. I was never the type of person to prep and plan ( like preselect colors , test layer settings and the effects they have for one another and etc), bedsides a few rough sketches. I tend to choose Colors at random and honestly I tend to explore and tinker with layer(s) settings till I get to the desire Look I’m aiming for during the chaos. As I continue to use patreon I notice that, that type of Prep is more necessary in my life. I believe, I have an amazing sense and eye for Colors ( honestly I could do better and Will be taking the Time to learn more about color theory), so the prep so far hasnt been a drag. But the excitement of drawing would always, come from the hyper fixation and focus I have when I draw at Whelm. It’s become my quality time— so some times the Prep feels more exhausting because the urge to continue isn’t the same .
Also at this stage of the piece— I decided I would experiment. I honestly had no clue on how I would complete the other version. So as I was getting this done, I was adding things I might use to complete the piece I’m referencing.
Aright, alright, alright... Now these little details are what made the piece. Baby, when I say we’re either dripping or drowning — we’re dripping. And I wont lie —it was the makeup artist Amanda Naezrah that inspired this look. She was recently working with the one and only SZA ( Solana) for a makeup look that she needed done for a show. Like I would die for an Opportunity to work with the goddess herself. So till further notice most character will resemble SZA till that Opportunity is presented and giving to me.
Here’s a close up of both the reference and my chibi style. I feel like one thing all artist should at least try to challenge themselves with is drawing their oc‘s ( original characters) or other characters in different styles. It’s good practice and you may discover things in other styles you can apply to your own. This is also the perfect time to check for minor mistakes and things You would like to cleanup. You can also take the time to add certain details and a enhance on the piece.
This stage is important to me because I love applying colors to the line work. It really does Make or break my pieces. A simple touch that most people don’t really notice or careto do. But I enjoy doing ,and something that really does enhance my Style.
Okay, TADA!!!! I hope that this little chat intrigued you and kept you busy for like 5-10 mins. I hope you also learned something or this encouraged you to add a new stage to your art process. And Remember …
