Its aug, 3rd today and while I was on my search to look for a copy of my comic for the pdf download ( link can be found in the previous post )— I’d found some old Studies and I thought it would be cool to look back at how I transitioned from realism to my style.
So if you didn’t know, I started draw for the age of 5 and probably a bit younger tbh. My journey with art comes from both of my parents, who ever really did do much with their talents. Besides, Give birth to artist children ( where 2 out of the 3 are currently old enough to work in the work force).
As I would grew, my love for the arts grew too. In the early stages of my career ( 2013) and even know I struggled with fake accounts, or lost of interest and wanting to maintain the engagement. So I decided to look for my niche. It wasnt easy and I’m currently going over a few mistakes from along the way to improve on making cool content while staying true to myself.

Starting with the most random and basic images in this post today— animal studies. These aren’t particularly the best. Also I feel like this study was created bc I either just got done watching “ Blue planet II “ — at least it wasn’t the documentary, ”Black Fish “. Yea vision and insight, sad documentary. ( animal )

Continuing with, what you should expect from a study—random body parts and shape. To be honest a lot of these were just doodles I did and marked to display movement and direction. I know for sure for the first image, all the drawings where from the top of my head ( beside the hand holding the phone ), but for the ref. with hand— yea I sat there studying. Hands are the worst thing to draw even after you’ve gotten it down, ( shapes and bod)
I mentioned before how I was one of those kids that would draw their characters with their hand behind their backs. It was simply the death of me and all my drawings. I honestly wish I had a core memory of when I started to say,” F*ck it— imma draw me some hands.”

Now here comes my specialty— baby when I say I could draw an eyeball for days— I meant I thought I could paint a 48 hour photorealistic oil painting okay. I was THAT GIRL!
LOL— if there was one thing I loved drawing it was eyes. I always did my best to be as detailed as possible, despite the fact that i would only draw like one eyeball. Actually for a while when I started a drawing, I always started with an eye first and then worked my way around the face. However, i still needed to learn proper portions ( till this day I still do). And Ik there’s a what looks to be a nose in this image— but we’ll ignore him for now. Im still learning and adjusting to nose design. However, I do realize that at this point ( or further back in the years), I discovered I don’t have draw or be so detailed with details.

But what do I mean by that? Well one look at the body studies. Yes ik.
Secondly, I mean, like I would draw eyes and, if you’ve ever looked at the detail an eye could have you know its a bit more work to achieve the same looking ( if thats what you’re aiming of within your project). So as I would draw— sometimes I find myself trying to replicate the eye ref. In a smaller size. Trying to place that much detail at that scale seemed impossible —but using basic shading techniques, knowledge on lighting, and small simple strokes. I drew a very detailed eye with out have to actually doing much vs, if I would have drew it in a bigger scale.
Anywho, now moving on to some body studies. At this time I was gaining so much weight— ( I was never shy about being a bigger gal) but, I need representation. As I still improve on drawing body’s that look more like mines and that represent a fuller, thicker, chubbies , plus size figure- I wanted to provide hope, and beauty. Ive been taught how to draw curvier, coke bottle, hourglass bodies— knowing that I as the artist didn’t looked anything like what drew. Which isn’t an issue but, I’ve never taking the interest to draw my full self. Nor was I thinking about what my art meant to those that are also plus size and may want to art from me too. So from this day on I made it my due diligence to start practicing with fuller body types ( even if I don’t post them publicly all the times— Know that I’m in the kitchen working on ways to define the beauty of fuller sized individuals).

In part 2 of —I’ll be showing a few art breakdowns and old tutorials from 2019– At this point in my career I was in the developing stages of my art style and I was really focused on making this my career. I hope part one was a bit of a time jump for those that have been following me for a while. Well, till next time.
