Amo_Caat | Artist support

Thank you for joining us today! This is a new segment we’ll be adding to help other artist and their platform grow while, also making connections —

I’ll be your host, Caleb Faith and we are interviewing, the one and only, Amonatt “Amo” aka Amo_Caat. Im grateful to have interviewed you. Its even been a pleasure checking out your body of work over time and watching you platform grow. Thank you once again for you time and lets get started.

What is your name, social tags ( All of the social sites you would like to mention), your age, and where you’re from?

Hi! My Name is Amonaat but you can call me Amo for short. I’m a 23-year-old digital artist and content creator from Georgia. My main platform is Instagram, my handle is @amo_caat. My tag is also @amo_caat on Tiktok, and AmoCaat on Youtube.

In 5 words or less describe yourself.

A daydreaming artistic soul

Why do you make art?

I make art to express myself. I use my art to materialize my desires, my fears, and my interests. It is a very selfish passion, but I also love sharing my creations as well. My mind is constantly pumping out ideas, mainly because I get so easily inspired. So, I have to keep creating art, or else I start suffering mentally and emotionally. Art is my life, literally.

What is the hardest part about what you do?

The hardest part is dealing with my own art block. Sometimes I feel like I’m artistically constipated. I always want to draw, but when that art block hits, it's absolute agony.

What has been the most rewarding thing that comes with being an artist?

The most rewarding part is when I get DMs or comments from people telling me my art has had a positive impact on them. Whether it inspired them to draw again or feel represented through my art, it all gives me so much joy. It's one of my favorite parts about sharing my art publicly.

How do you describe your art?

I would describe it as a love letter to myself and other black women and girls. I want to celebrate the multi-faceted beauty of black people. Currently, my inspiration is decora meets y2k. It's sparkly, colorful, and expressive.

What is your biggest Pet peeve ( being an artist and in general)?

One of the biggest pet peeves is dealing with how demanding people can be. On the worst days, It doesn’t even feel like I’m my own person to people, just some art-making machine. I know that can sound so trivial to most, but it's so exhausting.

What’s your preferred method of advertising your work?

Word of mouth or sharing is my preferred method. Someone recommending my work or art to another person is how I was able to make money even when I had less than 500 followers. It's incredibly powerful and immensely appreciated.

If you can give any advice ( to your younger self, or beginners), what would that piece of advice be?

Never forget why you are making your art or craft. Constantly remind yourself why creating brings you joy. Sometimes it can be discouraging when it seems like you aren’t getting any traction or perhaps you may get distracted from a sudden influx of attention. It’s easy to get lost in these moments, but give yourself space to be grounded in your original connection to art.

Do you feel as if your art helps the communities around you ( that being your online presence in dedicated communities you enjoy, your local communities within your area, or  *rather it being your art finds its place with whoever and whatever communities that needs that recognition and relate to your art)? { * Example- You draw whatever speaks to you and those that like your art like it.}

I do feel like it helps my communities purely based on the feedback I’ve gotten from followers, non-followers, and other artists. But there is always more to be done, so I will continue to push myself.

What (3) goals do you want to see or complete within your art career?

I love the many faces of art and I want to dabble a bit in all of it. I want to draw a completed comic story, a fully animated short, and make a video game. It's ambitious but I believe I will be able to do it!

Who is your favorite artist?

I don’t have one in all honesty. Every artist I follow or admire has elements that I absolutely adore and take inspiration from. It's hard to pick one, it's easier to just list an artist and tell you why I think they are amazing.

Recommendations time ( Top (3) ) > Current songs/ artist

Stray Kids, Ocean Kelly and STAYC
Whorible Decisions (18+)
Berleezy, Kennie J.D., JazzyGuns

Tv show ( If you need help narrowing things down| Anime, cartoons, k dramas, comedy, action, doc, true crime, or romance)

Bojack Horseman, LoveCraft Country, Watchmen

Movies

Kill Bill, Spirited Away, Us

How is your mental health?

Every year it gets better. 2020 was definitely my lowest point. But since then I’ve been healing and have more self-awareness. I love where I am and how I’m constantly being challenged to keep growing.

Lastly, we have to know what you are working with( your preferred medium, tablet etc) and at least (1) of your favorite tools. I feel this is the most important question, because everyone does things differently, or has different tools that they enjoy using. Plus it's the most asked question an artist gets asked besides,” Can you draw me ?”

I use a Huion Drawing Tablet and Clip Paint Studio Ex. My favorite tool is the sparkle brush, it's an absolute highlight of the whole art process.
The most common question I get these days is: “How do I grow my art page?

Well thank you, for partipating in todays interview. It’s really been a pleasure chatting it up with you. I hope that this has been helpful to a lot of you and that you all check, Amo.
