I think the next entrants to the nuclear proliferation game will be Mexico, Nigeria, Ethiopia, and if it is able to form successfully, The East African Federation. Mexico has a freshly hostile nuclear neighbor who is already making noise about invading to combat the cartels that have set up in the north and in other regions far from MCs reach. Nigeria has a lot of neighbors that it wants a lot of influence over, and claiming it will be their defender against neocolonial projects by being the counterbalance to French and Russian influence could be a speedy way to consolidate its immediate neigborhood into that desired sphere of influence. Ethiopia is on a democratic backslide and facing ethno-balkanization with some of the pressure coming from outside actors like Somalia and Eritrea, plus if Egypt redoubles back to their own program Ethiopia will absolutely be looking for countermeasures to protect their dam project because they've decided water rights is colonial resource extraction. EAF would be in a weird position since it would inherit all the pot stirring Rwanda is currently getting up to and as a result start life already on the precipice of war with the DRC, which is interesting since that's also where they'd have to go for their materials depending on if they wsnt to spend the time and money importing their materials with the inspectors constantly looking over their shoulders. What's fascinating here is that all three of the African powers would probably be using the bomb to at least partially counter Russian medling in their respective regions, and yet all of them also have a VERY russian ulterior motive of using the bomb to consolidate or begin establishing regional influence. Mexico meanwhile would do it just to survive in a potential post trump world where America doesn't stop electing lunatics who may or may not go full vigilante chasing cartel families in spite of Mexico's sovreign jurisdiction, even if technically they've been using that jurisdiction for quite a long time now to actively blunt anti cartel moves by the US and also by the honest parts of their government that said cartels haven't been able to turn into LiveLeak videos yet.
