A User's Guide to Reading Dostoevsky

Dostoevsky is such a legendary author. He explores timeless themes in an (ironically) quite material and down-to-earth fashion.

I hope you enjoy it and let me know what you might want me to cover next. And thank you so much for all your support.

I’d never have read The Brothers Karamazov, which is one of my top 3 favourite books of all time and hugely personally influential, had I started with C&P. So TBK first, and C&P never.

I finally got my hands on The Idiot, which is the book that has caught my attention the most (and I also could not afford Crime and Punishment at the time). It's easy to get excited about the reading when the books are being recommended with such passion, and I did not consider reading his Wikipedia article before, but I'll do it first then, before starting. It is also fascinating the fact that Dostoyevsky was an influence on Nietzsche considering their differences, how nice. If possible, recommendations or maybe a user's guide on Leo Tolstoy would be nice too, I recently got Anna Karénina and it has been quite hard to put the book down, so other suggestions about his works would be great, I just don't know where would I get the time to read all of this :))))))))) Thank you so much for all the suggestions!

I watched a freaky Japanese film last nite, it was called Cure from 1997. It mentions a guy by the name of mesmer, I thought that sounds french. But no! His name was Franz Mesmer, a physician aka butcher because he lived in the 1700s and part-time astronomer. Hence the word mesmerize(d) was derived by him because he believed people were drawn together by strong magnetic forces in the cosmos. Krazy, yeah i reckon!

I was just about to dive into a ton of Dostoevsky books so this is very helpful. Thanks!!!

Fuck it, a billion Shades of Gay

I just started Notes From Underground. I’m still pretty new to classics. But I’m enjoying the ride!

Great video, as always, and a second in a row with a mention of Max Stirner, this is unintentionally (or is it?) turning into a meme. I got into Dostoevsky thanks to you and your videos on him, and I think I'm even more interested in him as a psychologist than a philosopher, so this list is very helpful as to where I should go to uncover more of that side of his.

I'm dyslexic, and names are my final Boss of pronunciation. I feel you every time you say I don't think I'm pronouncing that right lol. Love the videos
