I have designed a ventilated battery box mod to counteract the heating issues of the belt drive design. It is on thingiverse.com. I had my drive gear melt after heavy use. With fans, they can go all day. I will definitely upgrade to gears!

I like the look of this especially if we can get a bigger gear reduction from the motor.
I do know from mine the 100 Watt motor just isn't powerful enough for the current speed ratio, When operating in a public space, we don't need R2D2 to move that fast, changing the gear ratio to make R2D2 slower will also reduce the load on the motors at the same time allowing the 100 Watt motors to work on carpet and help prevent over heating of the motor in our plastic housings,
The housings are almost guaranteed to melt just before the motor burns out..

Amazing, and if anything breaks or wears down overtime - easy, just reprint the part.

Some parts will work, but most need reprinting unfortunately. I’ve not tested it, just printing at the moment. I will also try herringbone gears to see if it make much difference noise wise. I will probably redesign the omnis while I’m at it, aiming to cut down noise and increase torque.

Yep - that's the one place I've struggled. C2 drives fine with the single belt version, but I still struggle with slipping when he first starts to move and his belts make a lovely squeaking/farting sound. :(

Noise is the only real issue with direct drive, if you can solve that, this will be a big improvement.

I assume everything will have to be printed new?

Magnificent : )

Awesome! I was just about to start printing the feet and drive system. Since I have a million other pieces to print, I'll hold off. :) So awesome that you are always updating and bettering your files.

Would you be able to do herringbone gears to possibly cut down on noise, etc?

Shiny!

Exactly, I’m repenting for the sins of my past. The drive units are the most troublesome for people. Mine worked fine but direct is much better. Also gearing ratio is upped for better torque.

This will be great, more direct and no risk of belt issues :)
