Future of this Patreon
Added 2024-11-13 23:44:53 +0000 UTCI've paused billing for 1 month. No one will get any bills until Dec 13.
I won't be writing any new chapters for this time period, and depending on the decisions I make, chapter output will drop or stop entirely.
This Patreon has been my sole focus for almost 7 years, a full time job I've tried to get going. It has been the largest career failure of my life. It's been stagnant at about 900-950$ USD a month for years, and that's half what I need to survive this fucked up, broken, ruined world. That's FAR less than half what most people need, but I live very frugally.
I thought maybe when MLV finished and I started PoH, that might change. It did not. I can no longer justify pouring every bit of my creativity into this project when it's shown no signs of change for years, despite me branching out to 6 different websites to share my stories, despite my chapter output and word count far exceeding what most authors can manage.
When the break is over, I'm not sure what I'll do. Get back to it, maybe lower chapter output, or just delete this project entirely.

Slow your publication of it on free sites. Start pushing people from free to paid. You are working through conversion. Essentially social media, and you need to differentiate the paid and encourage people to pay. So slowing the release to free sites and building an exclusive catalog on the paid might be a good idea. Conversion is hard. But when you stopped posting for free I found the patreon and now pay.

2024-12-17 06:53:32 +0000 UTCNovus, I concur with the consensus. You undervalue your work. Charge what you need to live plus a buffer percentage. You may lose some readers, but those who love your work will continue to support you.

2024-11-19 15:38:13 +0000 UTCWill be happy to pay more for your work. Your stories are great. Perhaps someone here could help you to market yourself more effectively. You have the talent and dedication. It may be a question of tweaking things a bit.

2024-11-18 22:07:23 +0000 UTCI agree with the comments saying you don't charge enough. Your work is phenomenal; it's quite honestly among the best on LE. I might even consider removing some of it from free platforms and finding a way to publish it instead. Maybe even see if you've got a Gen Z type of contact who can make you IG reels using stock videos and AI voiceovers to promote the stories. Smut literature is HUUUGE these days... you absolutely have the talent and the repertoire to make a lot of money.

2024-11-18 01:55:48 +0000 UTCYou are quite simply one of the best writers and story tellers I’ve run across. I came here from the little Ventrue series and I have not been disappointed in the least. Please don’t quit doing something you obviously love. Raise your prices a bit and level set your expectations. I truly hope this isn’t the last we read from you, but I gotta say thanks for the hours of reads!!

2024-11-14 22:52:20 +0000 UTCI concur with many folks here that we'd gladly pay more to support you and your work. I want to buy a higher tier now as a show of support, but I think you should increase your cost. Knowing your value and demanding it is a varsity life skill, and you've shown here you are working on that. So, good for you, and your patreon supporters have your back.

2024-11-14 08:39:25 +0000 UTCI can totally understand why you got to this point. My tip aswell is to increase the subscription cost substantially. Im on tier 2 and only pay 6€ a month. Man i would pay even that much for just one chapter and even more. You are just that good of a writer.

2024-11-14 05:44:16 +0000 UTCDo what you need to do. Whether you’re releasing one chapter a month, a year, a decade, the community you’ve built will always be just as eager to be thrown into one of the worlds you’ve built. There may not be thousands upon thousands of us, but every single one of us smiles when we see your name in our inbox.

2024-11-14 03:41:49 +0000 UTCI fully understand the reasoning you have laid down. Over the years you have improved to an amazing level through dedication and pouring your heart on mlv, Medusa and poh. Your skill in writing is impressive, both in terms of the actual content and speed. You getting 3 chapters a month for over a long period is a speed of a professional full time writer with editors and help from a team. If it's possible to continue poh even at a decreased pace I'll be grateful for that I'm really invested. I'll increase my tier for one chapter a month. I have greatly enjoyed all your series and was emotionally invested in all of them like some of my favorite books. The days when a new chapter came out were my favorite days of the month. Thank you for the years of amazing content

2024-11-14 03:06:02 +0000 UTCTo be honest, majority of the people I support on Patreon that write as much as you do charge three times as much for their lowest tier. I think for the amount of content and the frequency of release no one on your Patreon should be paying you less than $10 a month. I pay for the $3 tier because I have the option but if you made the minimum tier $10 I’d still pay. Some Patreon accounts I support are $25 a month some of them are $14. Know your worth, demand it and accept some people will walk away. I know it’s easier said than done, but if you’re thinking of shutting the page down entirely, at this point, can you say that you have anything to lose?

2024-11-14 02:54:06 +0000 UTCI'll add one more thing, if it helps... I would GLADLY double my subscription cost. You put out amazing content I can't find anywhere else. I started erotica to replace porn and your stories are in my tops. I am rereading MLV as we speak because I love the worlds and stories. Maybe you can adjust the price to make ends meet? Just a thought, I'd stay a subscriber.

2024-11-14 02:26:48 +0000 UTCWell, I understand that you will have to do what you have to do. You will alienate some. People join patreon to support artists. I have supported you from the beginning, including when you banned me for offering constructive criticism. Back then i said your lore was far more important than sex scenes every other chapter because you had something. You banned me. I still believed in you so I rejoined and have pretty much been a quiet fan every since. I could have waited and just read on lit. I was happy to support you. I have the resources. Some may not be as well off and give what they can. Just a thought as to why some might be angry. If this isn't profitable for you and you can't make ends meet, I totally get it. I will be incredibly sad and hope you continue on your own when you have time. You've created an amazing world with amazing characters and an amazing plot. You owe it to yourself to finish this, even if it takes years and only you see it. Your plot is as interesting and engaging as anything I have read by major publishers. I don't need to lie to you. Be kind to those who get mad. Some may have little extra cash, but set it aside for you because they love your story. I understand your situation, but realize your fans may have it hard too. No, you aren't required to suffer for anyone. Nothing is black and white. I wasn't being a dick to you when I offered comment back then. The sex scenes are fun. I enjoy them. I'd trade them all for many of your non erotic chapters. Your action scenes are amazing. Your restraint at allowing the twins to grow organically is mature. You have real talent and natural instincts. Anyway, this felt like the right time to be honest. Now that I've outed myself. I'll go if you like. Won't change my opinion of you.

2024-11-14 02:00:04 +0000 UTCRight, but I also know they've got a license you might be able to use. I'm not sure they'd be willing to associate with erotica, but they might and it might be worth reaching out for! Also, even if they don't, you could potentially alter names and the like to not infringe. I guess the core of my point is that you've got great talent in writing, and should reach out to those who have great talent in marketing or copyright and see if they could help.
Sam
2024-11-14 01:13:30 +0000 UTCAs much as poh being cancelled would suck because i’m very much enjoying the series, you gotta do what’s best for you. You’ve pumped out phenomenal chapters with consistency far higher than other writers ive followed.

2024-11-14 00:58:47 +0000 UTCThe MLV universe is Vampire: the Requiem. I don't own that IP. I created the city and characters, but the IP is owned by White Wolf. I can't sell anything in that series.
Novus Animus
2024-11-14 00:57:47 +0000 UTCObviously you do whatever you think is best, but I'd try with MLV first. Its a body of work you've already completed, so you're not trying to finish a product while under a publishing deadline. I know there's some potential copyright stuff, but I'd imagine it wouldn't be too hard to figure out. I brought up the reddit ads just as an example, but if you're looking to expand your reader base, that's just marketing! There are people who do this professionally!
Sam
2024-11-14 00:44:29 +0000 UTCI tried self publishing a little bit when I started this journey, but it didn't go well. That was a long time ago, though. Things are different now. I might take a stab at doing something with PoH. I don't know anything about reddit ads, though.

2024-11-14 00:36:49 +0000 UTCNovus, One more thing…. So, the way I found My Little Ventrue was because my friends had introduced me to Vampire: The Masquerade. I’d never played a table top role playing game before, had no understanding of the world we were in… so I read a few commercial paperbacks. They helped a bit, but then I stumbled across MLV. That threw my imagination into the lore, world, clans, etc. more than anything else I’ve read previously. Our gaming sessions went from stress to chill and fun for me. Even after we stopped playing, I kept looking for every new chapter of MLV. Thank you for the awesome writing which took me from “having” to study about Masquerade, to living and feeling it in my imagination. Again, all the best! ~K

2024-11-14 00:19:29 +0000 UTCHey Novus, I’ve been enjoying MLV for years, very much enjoying PoH, and I’m super surprised to hear how low your income has been from them. To be fair, if I were in your position, I’d probably be thinking along the exact same lines. I wish I had words of infinite wisdom to bestow on you, to waive the wand of fortune and have your stories get the renown and income I feel you’ve earned. It’s my hope that even if you move on in a new direction, that you keep your stories as a hobby. As long as you’re writing, I’ll be reading. All the best, ~K

2024-11-14 00:10:10 +0000 UTCHave you considered publishing? You've written more than enough for a novel or two or three. If nothing else e-publishing would be another revenue stream! Also, I'm not sure itd help much, but I've definitely seen ads on reddit for stories that are described as similar in tone to yours. Maybe that might help too?
Sam
2024-11-14 00:00:35 +0000 UTCI sincerely enjoyed all of the content you have put out till now. I hope that a solution and way forward presents itself. I wish you much success

2024-11-13 23:56:38 +0000 UTCTrully sorry for your situation. Hope it sorts out or atleast you get your dues correctly. It has been a journey reading your stories for the last 7 years. I hope you dont have to stop. I wish you the best even if you have to.

2024-11-13 23:55:49 +0000 UTCSo sorry that it hasn't taken off. I'm not sure why in my mind I just assumed that you were doing great since you have easily had the most consistent output of high quality story of anyone I support on this platform by far. I also wish I had a magic wand I could wave and explode your patreon numbers, but I also understand that you need to do what you need to do to survive. Your stories are phenomenal and I would be sad to see them go, but I understand. Best of luck!

2024-11-13 23:54:58 +0000 UTCThat really sucks. I'm sorry you haven't been getting the compensation you deserve for the work you put into these incredible chapters. I hope the break gives you the clarity you need going forward. Props for recognizing that you need the time away.

2024-11-13 23:54:35 +0000 UTCFor real. Looking forward to each new chapter of PoH since you started that project. By far the best story I've come across. Seeing that this world you've created might just up and vanish soon really sucks to hear 😞.

2024-11-13 23:51:14 +0000 UTCEveryone has to do what they need to in order to survive. I have immensely enjoyed your writing. I hope you can find a way to continue writing here, maybe by increasing prices or reducing chapter output. If you can’t, I wish you the best on your future endeavours.
