If Jessy was in PoH she'd be a succubus, not a gargoyle! Yeah keeping downtime lean is definitely something a lot of screenwriting insists on, but for novels, especially long series, downtime is my favorite stuff.

2025-01-31 00:13:06 +0000 UTCIf I had a nickel for every time Novus Animus wrote a character named Jes with a pushy, rough-and-tumble personality but hidden romantic and emotional depths, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird it's happened twice ;) All jokes aside, I really enjoy the slower paced chapters. I've heard that at least in the show-writing space, "downtime" is kept pretty lean so viewers don't lose interest in the driving conflict, but I feel that PoH benefits from these breaks from the insanity.
