Which would be even more devastating for Crowley, if Az would have asked Crowley to heal him but Crowley chased him away before he could. (Not super familiar with canon GO, especially book canon, so forgive me if I’m speculating wrongly.)

So I might have misread this, but didn't Moses already know or at least suspect that Aziraphale was not just a regular human? Especially since he knew Crowley as a snake deity and so interacting with nonhumans was within his established reality. In that case, why didn't Aziraphale heal the scars?

2019-12-09 01:28:27 +0000 UTCThere’s a good reason Aziraphale won’t miracle away the scars. In the tv show he won’t miracle away the paint from his coat because “I’ll still know it’s there, underneath.” He’ll still feel the scars even if he miracles them away.

2019-12-08 20:57:01 +0000 UTCMy first thought, on seeing the scars, is why didn't Aziraphale just miracle then away, but then I realized that, since Moses *saw* him get whipped he couldn't "erase" the whiplashes because that would give away that he was an angel. So he had to live through the painful experience of them healing naturally. I am curious, though, why you chose to have his wings create a break through his clothing, as they don't in either the show or the book. (Assuming, if course, there's anything more to it than "because the story needed it to be that way")

2019-12-08 20:41:41 +0000 UTCOh dear, Aziraphale still has multiple eyes around his face! He must have gone completely 'true shape' in his panic attack! I'm amazed how Crowley is even able to approach his angel with so much divine grace still streaming from him. It must burn him terribly, but still he manages to touch angel in his catatonic state and make him realize that he is here with him. And Aziraphale is so thoroughly exhausted after probably having spent every ounce of his grace into his massive panic explosion, that he is hardly conscious when he collapses in Crowley's arms. The only thing in his head at that moment is probably: 'you came... you came... you're here...' And then Crowley feels the whip scars where the wings tore through his clothes... maybe at first he will think it was the demons that angel smote that did it, but what will he feel once he realizes that the whipping happened the last time Angel cried out for him - when he chose NOT to come? And then his dismissal of Angel without explanation? Poor Crowley will be SO heartbroken when he realizes this!

Let me see if I can explain it effectively… So basically it looks like Aziraphale was triggered by the sound of the whip. Brings back some painful memories, right? NOT THE ONES YOU'RE THINKING!! Because after the whipping 20 years ago, he had to be strong for Moses. He didn't even cry back then, even though he was in so much pain that he couldn't speak. BUT what happened after he was whipped? He went to Crowley. To seek comfort, to ask him to leave with him, to tell him what happened, to include him. And what did Crowley do? Pushed him away. Lashed out at him with his words. And those words cut deeper than the scars on his back. THAT was when he cried. That day was so painful for Aziraphale, and it all started with the sound of a whip cracking. So! Coming back to this update, the crack sent Aziraphale into a panic attack and he smote the demons instantly. But this time he was able to shout Crowley's name. AND HE CAME. The tears on his face in this update is because he's remembering how much Crowley hurt him when he lashed out, and he's reliving those painful words and the subsequent 20-year break-up. Only this time, when Aziraphale cries out for comfort and help, Crowley is there for him. Aziraphale is in a whirlwind of memories that are tearing him apart, but this time when he called for Crowley, he came to his aid… Anyway I broke my own heart when I realized this (and it makes Crowley's soft "I'm here…" so much more heartbreaking) and I hope you all agree 💖
