Guess That Mansion! (Jazz Baby wip)

(Posted yesterday, but removed so I could post the full picture!)

I spent soooo long painting this, and in the end itโ€™s in the background so I had to blur it ๐Ÿ˜ž I thought youโ€™d like to see it though! Can you guess what American mansion it is? Construction began in 1899 and was completed in 1902! It was also used as a set in one of the The Great Gatsby movies!

The Swan Coach house! Aw wrong guess but they did use the Swan house for some of the exterior shots in the Baz Lhurman Gatsby!

Rosecliff in Newport, Rhode Island. My favorite! ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿคฉ

Oh yes! Most fell into disrepair in the mid 1900s because it wasnโ€™t fashionable to have these kinds of summer homes anymore. But the Vanderbilt mansion (the breakers) is a fantastic example of CHP in the area. The remaining mansions (and there are plenty!) are open for tours almost everyday and the Newport Preservation Society does and incredible job making sure they last!

These old New England mansions are gorgeous in real life, but they're so sad, too, because you know they don't host the same lavish shindigs that they did in their heyday - not with the kind of opulence and carefree air that they used to. Some of them, like the Vanderbilt estate (it was in the second Crocodile Dundee movie) we used to get to tour when I was little. We went there on school trips and whatnot. It's really fascinating. I love your take on this one. The colors tell their own story, especially considering I think the mansion is mainly white, isn't it? Like all the hell white? XD

Breakers!

I have no idea, but it's bloody amazing !!

Nads (@teslatherat)

Itโ€™s one of my favorites. I love elms and marble house the best but rosecliff just has that lavish but slightly understated (for a mansion) look I wanted. Anything bigger would have swallowed the characters.

Ding ding ding!!

Whiteley Foster

bro those COLORS. I am swooning.

Vee

Rosecliff? It's in Rhode Island, right? I think I've been there.

Francesca Hartz

Carnegie?

Haunted

I smell trouble ๐Ÿ˜–

Tomanto

Itโ€™s gorgeous - Iโ€™m glad we get to see it unblurred. My guess on the original post was the Breakers or the Elms since (I think?) you said this bit is set in Newport. I stand by that guess!

Kostgard

HOW BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
