I had been wondering what secrets from Song’s past would cause him to be so wracked with doubt that he would flee a marriage proposal - but it makes sense now. Even if he’s been open with Mansa about the petty/non-petty crime, it’s the sort of thing that can wreck an official’s credibility if it becomes public knowledge. Interesting, very interesting!

He would go to parties with groups of other courtesans and entertain with conversation and sometimes music and dancing. He liked it a lot, but something pulled him out of that life.
