Mansa dating an infernal may raise a few eyebrows, but more in a “oh he’s edgy, he tamed one” way. If they got married it would be seen more like Mansa was lowering himself status wise. Other people have lovers that are infernals, marriage is just not common!

In Mansa and Song’s case it’s very much a symbolic commitment because Mansa does not have a lot of money or resources to provide for Song! It’s almost Mansa flipping off the humans who look down on infernals - especially the ex.

I think it's a generational thing now, but I'm old enough to be thought of as "weird" when I didn't get married, but got a civil union instead. But I was right there with Song, a piece of paper does not make a commitment any more real. It might be beneficial in some ways, but I don't think it is necessary to "prove" your love is real. The fact that he had to learn a very painful lesson to get were he is now, to have learnt that, hurts, but unfortunately that is usually how you figure these things out... It's specially more beautiful how he gives Mansa a way out, "I'm sure we won't get married, and your people might not get the courtesan contract either" all while he himself already took the step and wove his lariat to his horn. It again shows what you were telling us before, he's happy were he is, with no pressure and no expectations of more, specially given their circumstances were "more" could be frowned upon, and he wants to spare his loved one from judgement. Song grew up pretty fast and I thank you for letting us be with him along the way! ❤️
