Another fantastic page! Love the perspective and the glow of the scythe!!

Em (8)

That’s right! They definitely need some kind of connection for this!

Whiteley Foster

So Song has innate magic, but doesn't know how to use it/doesn't know the spells, while scholars like Etty know the spells, but don't have the magic to use them. And combining an infernal with a scholar like they are doing here - does that mean that Song becomes the conductor of magic that makes Etty's spells actually happen? Does he send out raw magic that her spells use and bend into things actually happening? Does she direct his magic powers then? Do they need a mental connection between them for this to happen?

Bobla Blubb

It’s become more of a status symbol that anything. Just like how there are religious scholars who regard themselves higher than the common folks, but that doesn’t mean they can perform miracles. They see themselves as the guardians of this knowledge. What Etty’s doing is also VERY strange. And yes, there are definitely other places where there isn’t an issue with them practicing conjuring!

Whiteley Foster

I love this comic and I love learning more about Mansa and Song along with the world they live in! Thank you so much for the hard work and sharing them with us!

Oh, sorry I do remember reading that. 🙃 I guess tho I’m still confused on why humans kept knowledge of infernal spells to begin with. I thought that they couldn’t use the magic themselves, thus Song making the light show and not Etty. If they can’t use it for anything other than just to have it, I’m thinking more like Latin where only the Vatican actually uses it officially, then why keep it around to begin with if humans are so worried about it. 🤔 And then I guess my other question is since Devils are nomadic, does that mean that there are some in other parts of the world that practice freely, possibly in places where humans are a bit sparsely populated?

Nix

So Gerald expects Song to either get hurt or humiliated because Scholars and Infernals aren’t friends?

EsmeGlass

So this is copy pasted from another time I talked about the infernal magic, but it does answer the question! You are right on the mark and here’s why! Devils aren’t really from anywhere specific. They’re very nomadic. So when they reached this region they were mostly trades people in search of a way to make a living. They started hexing and selling things like cosmetics for vanity purposes (creams and potions that would make you luckier or more attractive, that kind of thing) The products work wonderfully for humans but unfortunately the magic itself was highly addictive and humans started becoming reliant on it. Human governments did not appreciate that they were suddenly at the mercy of these newcomers, so they turned to the people who had been studying the magic of the infernals, encouraging them to keep what they had learned and any sacred texts to themselves, and rewarding those who did with high official positions. Naturally the celestial scholars started to demonize infernals after this because it’s much easier to steal from someone when you don’t view them as your equal. At this point (maybe two hundred years later) there is very little that infernals actually know about their own religion. They don’t know how to conjure, or produce magic as a weapon, they can basically just do small things like the “little tricks” Mansa mentioned. Like producing light, or small flames. Magic is still a part of them they just have no way to study it.

The perspective here looks AWESOME!

Annie

Ooo, the perspective of this looks as if it could have been challenging! I love how it's framed. Looking forward to seeing what happens next!

AJ Constantine

Same)

BigBadCat

Do it multiple times during the day. It's an addiction

Stacey Hopwood

I know you’ve explained it a few times but I’m still kinda confused about the whole infernals and their magic situation. As I understand it infernals themselves can’t practice magic because it’s viewed as evil by humans due to curses and addictions and stuff, but for some reason human scholars appropriated(?) infernal spells for their own use? So human scholars know infernal magic spells but can’t do magic them selves(?) for again reasons. And infernals can do magic but don’t know the more complex spells because they are banned from learning more about it? Am I right or am I totally off the mark? I was of the thought, for some reason, that infernals lost the ability to do magic altogether, but that is obviously not the case cause look at Song go 🤩 So now I’m wondering if it’s more like Disney’s Onward where they just don’t for various reasons but they could if they were given the chance.

Nix

Very cool!

Kat Holtz

This us great. The scythe is the focus.

Angela Antis

Wow Song! So focused and determined!

Atelerix

Omg I love that!!

Marta

This is so cool!!!! Go Song, show them how it's done!😎😍

Marta

OMG SO GOOD!!!

Stephano

The curve of the scythe blade with the curl of his tail is excellent... I hope whatever happens Mansa is impressed! 🤞❤️

JillianVolts

I mean the "fire dancer" thing is a good referencer to explain it. The other thing (the between *) is a spanish meme, means something like "i'm ok with it" in a slang way. -sort of- 😅

AleenaBite

I don’t know what reference that is 😂

Whiteley Foster

*MeSirve* I can work with that reference 😎

AleenaBite

This is so magical!! Absolutely gorgeous work and I'm so proud of our little devil 🥺❤️❤️❤️

Lyubi

I have no clue why I love Mansa and Song so much, but I really do love them!

Samara Lilly (Sandra)

Wooooow

Patolozka

More like a fire dancer

Whiteley Foster

Nope

rippingoffmyface

🤩Gorgeous!😻💕

rippingoffmyface

Is like a magical girl transformation transition 🤔

AleenaBite

Am I the only one who returns to the page just to read comments? 😂

BigBadCat

I am on the edge of my seat n desperate to see what's going to happen next n how Mansa reacts.

Rachel Thorpe

Oooo

Tarek Giver of Cookies

This is more of a visual thing than anything really important but there is! Etty’s word balloons are green. If Mansa were casting the eyes would be a deeper blue, Thomas they’d be purple, if Song knew the spells himself they would be orange. It’s more for you as the reader to determine who is in charge of the magic!

Whiteley Foster

I am endlessly in awe of this universe of yours.’

Ash S.

Is there any significance for Song's eyes going fully green for infernal magic? 🟩

Ladybugcaptor

Unheard of. Infernals could technically practice with a scholar, but both parties are usually completely at odds. If a friendship did form it would likely be kept secret, so seeing this magic is very rare.

Whiteley Foster

Is what Song is doing here pretty rare then? How common is it for Infernals to do this kind of magic with scholars?

Clare

Oh wow this is beautiful!

Clare

That is Song’s surname 😊

Whiteley Foster

So pretty!!

Hannah Barnes

What does it say on the scythe?

Tina Rhea

OOOOOH! I love it!!!

Mimsynims

Oh....my.....goodness..... 😮🤯 I'm speechless!! I can't wait, I'm so excited!!!!

Giada

Song seems so young from this perspective, almost a baby. It’s highly contrasting with the previous 2 pages, when he seemed much more adult.

Helen St

oh wooooow, I'm absolutely mesmerised by the glow 😮❤️

sick_pineapple

That face of determination! Come on Baby!!😎

Eszter Tóth

Wow 😍

Leanne

It's SO ✨ SHINY ✨

Unashamedly-enthusiastic

So excited about this, and it already looks awesome

NGK

I'm enjoying it immensely! :)
