We will definitely be following Song a bit more closely than Mansa in terms of these flashbacks because Song is the instigator of most of the problems in the story. However Song is really tight lipped about his experiences in the main story, which is why he’s focused on in the flashbacks. Otherwise during the main story he just wouldn’t talk about his emotions at all. Mansa is much more chatty when it comes to his history and experiences in the main story, so I don’t need to do a lot in the flashbacks to explain where he’s coming from. 2021-09-18 14:57:03 +0000 UTCI don't like making early judgement calls on stories that are not yet finished, which is why I haven't been commenting as much, but I do have one question that's been on my mind for a while. I actually have two questions, this first one is less important because it's just me being curious: Would you consider Mansa to be the deuteragonist of this story? That is the impression I have been getting throughout all these flashbacks thus far, since all of them with the exception of The Proposal have been primarily in Song's point of view, and even then, The Proposal switched perspectives about halfway. Not to say that him being the deuteragonist is a bad thing, because Song is an interesting, fleshed-out protagonist of his own accord - and maybe this is just me - but it seems like, so far, Mansa's main role has been Song's Tragic (currently) Lover. And (here's the early judgement call that I'm aware can be totally wrong) he looks to be on track to go from that to Song's Estranged Lover Who Will Help Him Change Society. So my second, actual question is this: Is that all Mansa is going to be as a character, or will he be built upon more in the main story? Will we see into HIS inner thoughts and doubts and goals in the way we get to with Song? He's a soft-spoken, sweet/caring, ace, bi(? or pan/unlabeled), dark-skinned man of color who is a main character that will go through a lot of hurt yet ultimately have a *happy* end - I can't NOT easily get attached to him and eagerly want to know more about him. His potential energy builds up and up with each flashback you treat us with. Guess this is just a way-too-long, convoluted way of me saying: I like Mansa a lot, and relate to him as a queer person of color, and let myself get emotionally invested in him knowing that he's a character of color who is ultimately going to have a happy end, but part of me worries that he's going to be more of a support system to Song than his own person, despite all logic and evidence thus far saying otherwise. You clearly have a lot more plans for him, from what I'm seeing, but my gremlin brain can't help but worry. Sorry to hit you with such a giant wall of text, whoops. I really like Mansa and have clearly spent too much time thinking about him 👀

In the art you posted taking place when Song returns he has his emotional moments, but is he a "stiff upper lip" type who will pretend he's totally fine or is this a situation where he will air his embarrassment to Song when they're alone? Also can my man(sa) just catch a break and have a big squeezer hug that isn't also about consoling or reassuring Song? My ace boi needs cuddles because these posts are stressing me out and *I* need cuddles 😂😂
