Combine this with his “friends” taunting and you can see how the cracks in Song’s trust in himself and this relationship only get wider as we move towards his leaving Mansa to “make himself more worthy” in his own eyes. I have to say having been in this kind of situation (frankly most of my relationships) it IS hard when you feel that inadequacy of education/job/contribution. You can really feel lesser and having other people point it out and prey on it to manipulate you makes it so much worse. So for every piece of anger at Song for leaving later know that he turns that anger into himself just as hard if not more than anyone else. I mean that’s my interpretation anyway.
