It turns a 1 minute argument into a week long war where you get a chance to dissect every single word… but with what happens next in the story it wouldn’t make sense if the fight was not this bad…
It’s been a while since The Courtesan so In answer to some questions about their contract: at the time that Song and Mansa wanted to take their relationship to the next level the only thing available to them as a human/infernal couple was a courtesanship. Marriage was not legal then so they settled on this because a courtesan has several legal documents explaining their status with their partner - basically it was the only way that the law would be forced to acknowledge what they had together. In standard contracts the Courtesan does get money and security, but neither party had that when they agreed to the contract, so it was more about the statement. After Mansa graduated he started getting a salary that both could live on comfortably and they really never worried about money. Song is not good with money though, he was in debt, and Mansa agreed that instead of giving him a stipend he would just pay that debt and the two could live off the earnings together. Mansa handles the finances and it hasn’t been a problem at all before now. The obvious solution to this problem would be Song getting a higher paying job… buuuut Mansa knows that with Song’s lack of education in any specific area it would be a difficult task 😬

2021-10-03 18:10:41 +0000 UTCAh yes as the person of lower education who came into my marriage with a load of debt and had my partner handle everything I have NO IDEA how Song feels at all. 😔 It really does bring all of the focus of his turmoil in the Proposal back to this pinpoint of this trauma (Elon’s assault and gaslighting underscored by this argument just afterwards) ripping the scab off a deeper wound of Song’s insecurity. It makes his actions in Proposal completely understandable.

2021-10-03 11:24:54 +0000 UTCIt’s easy to forget how young Song is as he’s been living in very adult arrangements since just past his mid teens and up till now, they have been more manipulative than nurturing for our poor bean. So he has needed help he just thinks he doesn’t. It’s heartbreaking how Mansa admits he’s trying to keep his promise to provide and struggling with it at the moment but it’s clear this point won’t be appreciated until later. I feel for them both 😔❤️🩹 let’s mend those hearts.
