Old Habits (page 10)

I’ve been so busy with the con but here’s page 10! Any questions about hexes or runners?

I don't like the look on his face, I fear there's something he's not telling him.... And 10 percent?!? That's nothing!! Is It because this way he'll have to work for Elon for a longer time?

Marta

Cruelty, yes ... but this *absolutely* smells like a setup. Elon drops off his card and terrifies Song just as Mansa is getting panicked, all according to plan - I'm calling shenanigans ... Elon is gonna set Song up to be caught. 😡

Eileen Smithers

This is when I remember that there's a warning about kidnapping on this story :((

Annie

I don’t know 😩 It seems like such a corrupt powerful person thing to do but as a scholar, he seems very well positioned without taking such a risk. I was wondering if the hex running market is such that Elon might be working for someone as the infernal connection or if he is his own boss (cuz that seems more his speed). And now that you say it’s not common along CS, I wonder if he saw that he’d have unique advantages as a CS and wanted a slice of extra power in hex running

Glissando365

It’s not really common amongst celestial scholars but it is at lease somewhat common with wealthy people. How do you think he got into it 🤔

Whiteley Foster

10 percent?

Tamerrae

ITS A TRAP!

Stephano

Sounds like a drug deal…

Stephano

There’s really no danger to carrying one, just the dangers of being near someone who is having a real bad time using them. But not all are recreational! Things like potions and perfumes can be hexed with “pleasure” for example, which would make then addictive. But other more dangerous objects can be hexed with things like “accuracy” or “luck”

Whiteley Foster

Why is Elon into the hex running business? How did he get into it? Are hex running rings common among celestial scholars?

Glissando365

Elon is definitely the type who likes to be in control. And is probably dangerous when he’s not. (And plenty dangerous when he is) Is there any inherent danger from the hexes themselves? Like are they volatile at all? I imagine an addict could be violent too, in pursuit of a fix…

Katharine Wallin

Part of me really wants to ask what Song was expecting, but I think waiting for tomorrow to see how Song himself acts is better. (or the day after, if delayed, but still, excited for story!)

catididnt

Mansa would be furious, the high council insists on harsh punishment for conjuring, and even though Song is just transporting the goods it is unlikely he would be let off with a warning unless Mansa intervened (but that’s really against his ethical code). But the reason Mansa would be so upset is that it is an extremely dangerous business that involves infernals traveling into very anti-devil areas to drop their hexed items. (People can be prejudice as fuck and still want their fix)

Whiteley Foster

Don't like it

Sarah Marino

😾

rippingoffmyface

If he sets Song up to be arrested, he’s screwed Song and Mansa

Linnea Dodson

How bad/illegal/dangerous is Hex running and all the stuff around it in their society? Like what is the risk to Song, and how mad/worried would Amanda be if he found out?

_Ms_Mayflower

Elon never specified what the job was, he was just looking for infernals with a knack for conjuring (and performers are good at that!)

Whiteley Foster

wait - I thought he was going to be an entertainer, not a hex runner. Did I miss something?

catididnt

Elon seems like the type to destroy others on his way to getting what he wants, so what is he not telling Song? Is he planning to screw over other people as well, kind of a two birds one stone scenario?

Cj

NOPE DONT LIKE THIS.

Ash S.

well, this kind of job was to be expected, his creepy smile and silent-not-so-silent glee of after all getting Song back into his shady business boils my blood still 😤

sick_pineapple

Oh this is bad. 🙁

Atelerix

Soooo… Elon is telling an influential judge’s courtesan to break the law. Wow! The cruelty is very much the point.
