Extra #26 - The Red Ghost

Greetings, faithful listeners!

Today's Lore Extra is a "first" in a couple of ways. For one, it's my first foray into the Southwest of America, which was fun and refreshing. Stories, especially the kind that I tend to focus on through Lore, can be found nearly everywhere humans have gone, and it's a blast rediscovering them.

But it's also the first public episode that was researched by someone other than me. I hired a research assistant at the beginning of July, and she's been working on main episode topics ever since (the first episode made in partnership with her will air in 5 weeks). But this was a story she bumped into and couldn't help but share it with me.

It's a fun story, with that perfect mix of creepy and historical that we all love so much, and I think you'll enjoy it.

Until next week...

So, you have to wonder what fool lashed himself to a feral camel in the efforts to "break" it and died in the process? I can just hear him muttering "I'm going to do this if it kills me!"

I love the irony of this story. I had heard about the effort to mount our western soldiers on camels as a child (Disney movie starring James Garner) and read about it in my favorite place (I could called the local library my second home).

Third time I've heard this story, in one form or another (one without the red ghost, but about the camels) in less than six months. Interesting how it keeps popping up for me.

This was brilliant as ever Mr Mahnke and your new researcher seems to fit right in with established world of Lore. Looking forward to the next episode.

Aaron, you're an excellent storyteller. Thank you for bringing these stories to life. Just got my husband into your podcast & he loves it 😊
