Old Habits (page 82)

… what do you think? Would Mansa protect Song at the price of his job/justice?

Old Habits (page 82)

Comments

He’s joking, he says so in the next panel

Whiteley Foster

Can't belive Song is willing, did put Mansa in that position.... jesus. Mansa deserve so much better.

Gabriel Hale

Oof yeah you put into words what I was feeling. Sorry Song but my first thought reading this panel was “you’ve got to be kidding right? 😶” And even if he were, Mansa seems the type to read everything very literally…

Glissando365

That was very unfair of Song to put on Mansa.

Amy Diane Short

oof, I've been having such a hard time with Song lately, but keep telling myself it's the backstory. It wouldn't be just Mansa's job or justice, but also the cause he's dedicated his life to that Song is telling him he'd betray for him. That's a lot, and he sums it up as "perks." "You'd never let them convict me." ... He didn't even ask Mansa, he told him. It's because of Song that Mansa choose to be a judge instead of an enforcer and already Mansa has changed one law. But Mansa isn't naive the way he used to be and his lover just disappeared for a day then showed up with a wad of cash and now he's assuming "the judge he shares a lariat with" will keep him from being convicted. And ultimately, Mansa would ruin himself for Song's sake. But Song isn't a bad guy, otherwise Thomas would be more vocally against him. (You don't put up with your friend's drunk lover that well if he's a jerk to your friend.) We're just seeing the beats that impact the main story and that's hard.

catididnt

😂😂😂 I love this hahaha

litlgreenleaf

your comment is completely on-point, speaking as a rule following autistic, myself. i completely relate to the internal conflict mansa's having over this 😅

Planetary System

Yay Mansa! I can’t wait to read more about it in the main story 😍

Glissando365

He has! This is actually a huge point of his character in the main plot, he is the best judge to get your case assigned to if you’re infernal

Whiteley Foster

I wanna say Mansa would do everything he could for Song....but the fact that you posed that question makes me nervous 😬

Avalon

I feel like Song is kinda joking here…? Because it seems unlikely just one Mansa could save him from being convicted of a serious crime he definitely did and is committing. And in that light, Mansa’s reaction is possibly equal parts “I’m conflicted about my morals here” and “We are both SO going to prison.” Question! How Mansa has handled cases against infernals so far? Has he encountered many cases where the law is unjust, esp against infernals, and he has he muddled with the sentencing as a result?

Glissando365

Collarbones 😍

Clare

Yes he would, but I agree with Mansa that he absolutely would rather not be put in that position.

AJ Constantine

I think Mansa is unsure. But if actually put in the position, he would 100% step in and save his love

White Wood Asmr

Oh, I don’t want to find out..! Because even though I think he would, it would hurt him to do so. Not the job so much perhaps, but going against the law? (Or it’s just me projecting how I would feel in Mansa’s shoes) Feels like it would cause damage to their relationship

Mimsynims

He is! It’s just implied in the story, but I’ve chatted about it in the comments!

Whiteley Foster

There's also the issue of Mansa being someone who's been going against the grain. The sith lord judges, I'm sure, would love to take this opportunity to take down Mansa while pushing for more control over infernals. The judge that just got a bill that gives infernals freedoms is involved with illegal, terrorist activity. Not good, for both

Mama Mongoose

Wait, Mansa's autistic? I try so very hard to keep up with all the lore and character info. But, I can't seem to catch up all the way

Mama Mongoose

I think given that we see him and Song go on the run together, Mansa would do anything to protect Song and keep him safe!

Annie

Oh, that might be a hard question. Mansa's autistic, so Song and the respect/admiration he has for the law might very well come into conflict. It would be very hard for him to choose one over the other, and that isn't because he doesn't love Song. It would just be that as an autistic person, having a conflict like that come along would so uproot his life he could end up having a meltdown that would leave him unable to act. It might be even harder since some autistic people are rules followers and Mansa has shown himself to be a rules follower himself, even if we don't know to what extent. This is just a guess based on having an autistic BFF. Might be true for Mansa, might not. He's not my character. 🙂

Res Judicata

I feel like this is a very tricky situation. Of course Mansa would protect Song with all that he can but part of why he can do that is the position he's in as a Judge. If he loses that position because he's seen as a "complice" in "breaking a law", no matter how unfair and unjust the law might be, Song would be even more in danger. Long story short: You're so good at making these characters full-fledged beings that have to question their morals. I completely get both of their thought process in here (with both of them only wanting to protect the other because they love each other SO MUCH UGH). I love your way of story telling!!

Hello Sunni

He definitely would! Like he said, he would be happy anywhere with Song. But I think he would also be extremely scared and worry a lot because he could loose Song.

Little0cean

Isn’t the main story that Mansa will, eventually, choose a fully trained Song over his job?

Linnea Dodson

And just like that you add another drop of complicated into their relationship. Words cannot explain how much I love your story telling!

Caren

Precious babes!

Sintina Soeburn

Song's face is so sweet here! 🥰

Atelerix

Mm I think it depends on what law he was breaking. This one seems kind of like BS to suppress infernals so I imagine he would.

Kaitlin Maynard

Ha autocorrect..Mansa.

Tamerrae

Yes, Massachusetts would.

Tamerrae

Yes he would but Song doesn’t really know that

EsmeGlass

I think he would most definitely go against an unjust law to protect Song 💙 But he knows the price to that would rather find a legal way, knowing that would protect both Song and others 💙

Caspian

If he just got that bill passed I think he has a firm idea of what is right and should be justice. The law and social norms on the other hand is not justice for infernals so it will be hard on him.

Susanne mizz_uzie Olsson

Now it strikes me how uncomfortable Mansa could be with Song doing magic right in front of him. He is blatantly breaking what is apparently a serious law right in front of him. A judge.

Happy Hives

Job for sure, no problem!! Justice? Uuuuh, that's an hard question!! 🤔🤔 But I guess will depend is it's a fair justice or an unfair one!!

Giada

🖤

rippingoffmyface

Job, yes. Justice, I'm not sure. Of course one can think that justice and law are two different things...

CC

Oh that look. Song you're killing me. 💗

YamiKakyuu

this does not feel like a hypothetical question in their situation and considering the future Song chooses for himself, but I deeply believe that Mansa would protect him with all he can, but that would not be easy for him mentally and morally, and for Song too, bc of how guilty he would feel 😔❤️

sick_pineapple

I think he would but Song would do everything to not put him in that position in the first place

Michelle Garcia

Ultimately yes, I think Mansa would do anything up to and including sacrificing his job and position but I also think he’d have to go through recognising what that would mean for them both. Poor Mansa would be fighting an internal battle with himself. We would just have to hope that he wouldn’t debate too long.

Nicola Coxon

Ugh I feel like this is not a theoretical question 😣 But also, yes I do think he would protect him, not only because he loves Song but because in this case he knows the law is wrong and he cares about justice

ragin2007

I believe he would protect Song. At least, that is my hope.

Vala

Yes. I think he would.

SH

I think the end, yes. Mansa has a deep belief in what his gut tells him, even if he has to wrestle with it first due to written law. Otherwise he wouldn't have fought for the Bill, would he? 🤔💛

Anja Beh

I'm understanding why Song left now

Tarek Giver of Cookies

I was ready to scream yes so badly, why are you filling my soul with doubt?! 😫😂

Jem

Yes 💛💛💛

Pierce

Mansa would protect Song at any price *mice drop*

BigBadCat

hhhhhhhhhh 😬
