Old Habits (page 83)

But now the bigger question: would Song choose Mansa’s job or his own happiness?

No this is the only time

Whiteley Foster

Will Song straight lie to Mansa's face again?

Gabriel Hale

What Neil said.

Ashfae

yeaaaaah that's not even a question. Oh Song. :(

Ashfae

It’ll take years, hmmm? Say - 4.5 to 5 years?

Linnea Dodson

These last two panels have made me feel so hard for Song. My immediate reaction was the same as Mansa’s, just never do that again, don’t get into trouble! But of course the law and this society are very anti-infernal and asking Song to keep hiding his magic is basically asking him to continue to stay quietly oppressed, and that’s as unfair in their world as it is in ours, even when the safety concern is valid. Mansa has already been incredibly sympathetic and an excellent partner and ally, but evidently he’s still thinking within the confines of changing the system ‘according to procedure’ which is just not enough. And even though we know Mansa would be willing to sacrifice more, it’s so clear why Song later sees himself as being incompatible with Mansa’s life and I just 🥺…have a lot of thoughts about that

Glissando365

I think it would depend on how Song framed it to himself. Mansa’s happiness is really important to him - but if he put it to himself as “I can be the one to take care of Mansa so he doesn’t have to work” then I think it might be a different ballgame.

Terri J

Lol this one's a no brainer, Song's a self sacrificial idiot

Kaitlin Maynard

Ok what's with the tricky ass questions? But seriously I don't know i mean I don't know if I'd choose my partner's job over my happiness 😭😭😭

Oh my god Whitley. I keep thinking about that portrait with their kid like 'how did they get there. ' that portrait is my light at the end of the tunnel, I swear. /Lh, but forreal yo

Neil K.

About a year 😬 I have one small comic that goes in between them!

Whiteley Foster

Considering Song would sacrifice EVERYTHING for Mansa, he's gonna pick the job, at least for a while. How long between this and the proposal again?

Neil K.

I remember reading ‘proposal’ what feels like forever ago and being so pissed at Song… this panel alone makes my brain zoom back to that moment of him leaving the ring on the table and I think ‘YUP’… I know why you felt you needed to leave sweet Song. UGH… this story is just so GOOD Whiteley!!!

JillianVolts

Mansa "I'll change the laws and society for you, just be careful whilst I do" Song "I promise nothing" 😂

_Ms_Mayflower

OW MY HEART 😭

Ash S.

Mansa's worried about losing Song 😭💖

Atelerix

Mansa is such a doer. I love him. 🥺

Jem

Song would absolutely choose mansa's job. This poor man has no notion of his own value.

Mathilde Roty

awww, Mansa, you absolute treasure of a human 🥺❤️ the more we get into their story the more levels there are being added to Song's decision to leave that night, and this particular part of their story is so deep and layered 😔💔 and the whole mental state Song is in right now and the one he's been in for a long time tells me that he won't let Mansa sacrifice himself for him, will do anything to not make Mansa choose him over his principles and job 💔

sick_pineapple

I’m pretty sure these two things are kinda connected. Song knows how much this job means to Mansa and that he is a huge reason why Mansa choose to become a judge. If Song was responsible for Mansa loosing his job, he would be extremely upset and constantly beat himself up about it even if Mansa manages to adjust to a new job.

Little0cean

Before I try and answer that, a big Awww 🥺❤️ to the request for caution, to not do anything that would get him taken away… my heart! OK, It’s a hard one because Song does seem to have a rather wide impulsive streak and he’s been in relationships where he’s been controlled and manipulated up until he found his safe harbour with Mansa (clumsy phrasing in the heat of the moment aside) I would like to believe Mansa has been clear enough about the risks and Song’s no dummy, he probably knows or has an idea how infernal’s get treated in the justice system. Consciously, yes, Song will see the sense of this situation BUT it’s that heat of the moment impulse I’m worried about. There’ll probably be a moment where all reason just flies right out of the proverbial window and Song won’t be thinking of any reasonable arguments in that moment 😬🤭

Song needs training

EsmeGlass

If Song leaves now I think he'll leave so Mansa doesn't have to choose.

Susanne mizz_uzie Olsson

Okay now I *really* understand why Song left for so long....

Avalon

Would he be able to stay happy if it made Mansa lose his job? I’m not so sure

Mimsynims

Argh my heart is breaking pre-emptively 😭

Ali

At this point, I don’t think Song has the confidence to realize his true worth to Mansa.
