A little sidenote -- my Ukrainian clients, who really brought me up to date on what was happening there in 2014, were very emphatic about wanting to eliminate use of "the." "Our country is called Ukraine. When Russians call it *the* Ukraine to other nations, it is a way of saying we are a region and not a country." Which is kind of funny since the Russian language seems to have very little use for definite articles, but anyway, I've tried to train myself out of that lifelong habit of saying "the Ukraine" as a sign of respect. I had no idea.
