Update 29th January 2025 - New Year, Same Sean

Howdy friends,

Hope everybody is having a good start to the new year, or at least as good as you can considering the world is on fire all the time (often literally) but we'll brush all that aside for now and talk about some upcoming plans/projects and also look at some cat pictures, which we all love to see.

So since the last update, I got both the Guardian of Darkness and Fan Translation update videos out, thank you for watching either of those if you did!

I'm still in the middle of deciding on putting all the fan translation videos together in a single compilation video since there are so many translated games out there now and I think having one singular video might help get more eyes on the games. I'll keep it on the back burner for now, but if it happens to pop up at some point, you heard it here first!

Here are the upcoming planned projects for the beginning of the year so far

-Japan Only Vol.16 (Currently in production)
-Demo Disc Project (Sort of deep dive into the world of PS1 demo discs from all regions and their influence on the console's legacy and image)
-Channel Update Video No. 4 (Announcement of change over to three games per episode in the wheel vids, and focus on shorter more sustainable videos)
-Obscure Vol. 17 (Return to 3 games per episode)
-Every Taito PS1 Games (currently no.1 choice for a developer video, but could change)

-Club PlayStation Mix No. 10 (Will try get this out somewhere in the middle of the above lineup)

More info on the above changes can be found in previous Patreon updates, but just to recap this is primarily to get videos out at a more frequent rate, without diluting the quality. It'll get us closer to the introduction of the PS2 to the channel, and Patreon requests only so hopefully we can try to make the worst value patreon on the planet, slightly more worth it!

Other than that things are going well. I've mostly deserted Twitter at this point, it's pretty much unusable, so if you wanna follow me on social you can get the occasional cat picture on Instagram but most of my limited social media activity is now on BlueSky which is pretty chill, so feel free to follow me there if you like!

As for other bits of news, this year I'm hoping to put in a bit of effort and sort out some decent merch and also get a website set up finally which allow people to check out lists of what games I've reviewed, whats been added to the wheel etc. just a basic but flashy y2k era website, just like you'd hope it would be! If there's any merch you'd like to see let me know, but generally I'm mostly a fan of the basics. shirts, hoodies, stickers etc. but I have thought about getting some limited copies of the club PlayStation mixes on tape. I'll have to check the logistics of that, as well as all the merch and website shit, but let me know if that's something you'd be interested in getting.

Also surprisingly, I have some music appearing in an upcoming indie game. It's called Axyz (pronounced Axis) and it's a vaporware homage to Kula World, I think it's aiming to be out around March but if you wanna check it out there's a free demo available on Steam, and as part of the latest haunted PS1 demo disc. (Im credited as DJ Gex 3D) https://store.steampowered.com/app/2850490/Axyz/

Anyway gang that's yet another patreon update, as always a big thank you for all your kind words and support. I hope I can deliver some good vibes to you throughout the year and my Dad was a milkman, after all, so delivering is in my blood. (my blood may or not be milk)

Until next time, go with your pals to a rave, listen to some happy hardcore and give each other lots of hugs. Trust me it's good for the soul.

Much Love,
Sean

(Ps. Honey and Luna say hello! They are as lovely and spoilt as ever)

thanks again for the videos sean, by far my fave content on YouTube great music drop by dj gex 3d today (i assume anyway, didn't listen of course)

Taito coming before Konami? Really? Though I guess Taito may be an "easier" video to make as there are likely fewer Taito games and most are more arcadey and less dense. So yeah, either way works for me, I have personal faves in both companies output so I'd be happy with both (and I'm sure both will be covered in due time regardless).

Thanks for the kind words! I've thought about doing something similar with both PS2/PS1 and Dreamcast/PS1 since both consoles have some interesting overlap. The issue with a video like that is the need to capture double the amount of footage for each game I'd have to think carefully about how I'd manage it but it's definitely a topic I'd love to tackle on a personal level! As I say with everything, I wish I had more time in the day haha but hey watch this space you never know what the future will hold!

Love the new content and always look forward to more. Would absolutely support and wear the hell out of merch. Have you considered doing a video wherein you cover games that were essentially ports of PS2 titles that were also put on the PSX during the market transition period? Not for sure how many titles there are, but I know there are a few and they are probably awful. I always found interest in games that are made for old consoles despite new ones being released. It’s either an exhibition of technical ability a developer has gained with an engine and the hardware since its release, shovelware, or a port from a new system. I know you’ve talked about a couple of late in life games with your developer specials (which is some of the best content I’ve ever seen).

Thanks for the update Sean, your timeline of upcoming projects got me very excited like always but especially the demo disc one. I love exploring past demo discs, either by myself or watching others, and seeing a deep dive on how they impacted the PS1 is something i'm very much interested in. Also can't wait to buy the inevitable cryo interactive shirt.

I love the demo disc idea as well. I actually have a small collection of them. I find them really interesting.

Cheers for the update, be well mate!

Club PlayStation on tape is something I didn't know I needed. Absolutely would buy a full set if you decided to go through with it.

Oh yeah, I love the demo disc idea. Very specific to that era especially. Felt like such a treat anytime I could scrape together $10 for an OPM, or score the occasional free grab at the game store (Software Etc. for me). I found a lot of favorites I wouldn't have tried otherwise - Bust-A-Groove being a perfect example. Website's a great idea. I'm a sucker for a good t-shirt. If at all possible, ZIP hoodies would be awesome. I'd snag one for sure. Congrats on the music feature. Very cool.

Love the demo disc and Taito ideas. Sony interactive sample vol2(USA) has fond memories for me. The secrets on the disc were especially fun
