The Proposal (page 15)

It’s… it’s complicated with Thomas 😬
But he does think he’s helping!
Does anyone have any Thomas related questions?
Woah Ghost is Thomas' mother??🤯🤯🤯

Oh shit why did he have to say that?😭😭 I just know that these words will haunt Mansa when Song actually does leave, especially the "if they run they don't come back" 💔

I remember the one where Ghost was attacking Mansa. 1. Was she coming for the judges and 2. Does she come for Thomas?

Yes, she is Ghost! Definetely! :)

Oh DAMN. Oh wow. Thomas telling the truth while leaving out a certain significant fact, and ohhhh shit. Hoo boy. Mansa will blame himself even more. Oh no.

This does put a whole new complexion on things now that we’re looking at it again. Agree Thomas definitely needs therapy but I’m wincing with the prescience of his words now 😣 I hope he doesn’t get all ‘I told you so’ after Song goes 😭😭😭

This gives A LOT more context to both sides of the Proposal. Thomas is so much more complex here once you know why he’s pushing Mansa so hard. And knowing that Mansa & Song have talked about this and decided to wait also makes Songs reaction more understandable.
I’m loving this expansion of the story!!

He wanted her to stay and be something she wasn’t, and the pressure from her family and his was a lot, but he got bitter after she left

Not the healthiest relationship advice there, buddy. The worst part is Thomas isn’t necessarily wrong about running—yes, dead on the money in Song’s case but I’d imagine a lot of mixed relationships have such issues when the social discrimination is so severe. What’s messed up is that he makes it sound like the “challenges” are like a fight over who does the dishes and not the vile discrimination Mansa is trying to protect Song from in this decision
Did Thomas’ dad want his mom to stay? Or is Thomas’ bitterness his own?

It’s not his focus… but I think he knows Mansa will fall apart if Song runs, and his career can’t afford that
Whiteley Foster
2022-05-31 14:38:37 +0000 UTC
Is Thomas primarily worried about Mansa's career if Song runs away? I know he loves Mansa and doesn't want him to be unhappy, but in this context it really seems like that's not his focus.

Wow, Gerald you're very close to "coming out" here....lucky for you Mansa is too preoccupied with his own drama to read between the lines

oh my, bet it was much more complicated than "things getting difficult", Algie... 😔
and I know he means well in his own way, wanting Mansa to be with the person he cares about and all, but man does it sound sad in the context of Song really running away right after proposal, these particular words of Thomas' must have returned to Mansa many-many times in the future 😬

Feeling both very sorry for Thomas and like he needs to be grabbed by the shoulders and given a good shake. Although later events are hardly going to prove him wrong…
Have we seen his mother in the story at this point?

It was a lot of societal pressure for sure! His father told Thomas what he knew about her leaving but of course by that point thomas was about 5 or 6 and that’s half a decade for the anger to fester :/

He won’t… but that doesn’t mean Mansa won’t learn!

Is Thomas going to confide in Mansa about his heritage? Either now or later? Also, Thomas is a very interesting character because he has so much going on and such a traumatic backstory. Will you someday give us more of his childhood story, please? I'd like to know about how it was for Thomas' mother to live with his father, how he behaved towards her (and his half-infernal son), and why she had to leave. Was his father abusive to her? We know he was abuse to his son, since he cut off his tail and his horns and forced him to live a life of lies and secrets. I feel I would really, really like to see a few drawings/short comic showing us how these parts of Thomas' life played out.... and why his mom had to leave her little child... I'm assuming she didn't WANT to leave her baby....

Mansa will think about that "if they run, they don't come back" part for a long time to come, huh? :') I love how you updated this part of their story, it hits in just the right places!

Also please don't tell me that Thomas says "I told you so" when Song does a runner.... He seem the type

“And if they run they don’t come back” . Well that’s a great thought to put into Mansa’s head knowing what’s going to happen 😭. Does Mansa believe that Song is eventually going to come back.
And “Don’t let Song run”. Wtf Thomas?! Go to the corner and think about what you just said.
Also is there a special way that Mansa and Song try to cope with during the time they are apart?

I hope is not spoiler for the main story, so if it sorry in advance.. 🤣
But what are the reasons for Thomas's mother to leave? And has his father lied to him about them while growing up? Any more background?
And regarding his sentence...he might have phrased them better, but I think he knows how much Mansa loves Song and how much it hurt to see someone you love disappear without a trace....and he can't know Song is about to disappear for real 🥲

I am guessing he is referring to his mother? How old was he when she left? Did she try to take him with her?
