Calf-Love (page 74)

Any mansa questions at all?? If there’s anything about his past you’d like to know I want to work it into the next few pages!

They were happy he was enlisting in the army, but they didn’t expect him to stay in the capital once he was discharged

Whiteley Foster

You mentioned Mansa is from a less accepting part of the world, was his family apprehensive about him moving to more progressive place (and potentially being "influenced" in ways they did not approve of)? Or were they just glad he was leaving to become a constable?

Horizon

They appear mostly in groups of people with high social standings (they might have a husband or wife and an infernal courtesan on the side) but lower ranking mixers will use courtesan contracts as a way to marry. So Mansa being a judge with Song would be more common than him being a constable with Song, just because people at a lower level usually have a contract for love (not for the protection of assets like wealthier people do)

Whiteley Foster

It’s more acceptable in other countries, it happens that Alma is getting there but where Mansa’s from is much less accepting

Whiteley Foster

Ocean is right! A big sister and brother

Whiteley Foster

From what I remember he has two, an older brother and an older sister. So he would be the youngest child.

Little0cean

The latter, but we will see more of that tomorrow!

Whiteley Foster

How many siblings does he have and where is his place in the line? Like middle, youngest, oldest

I'm not sure if this has been asked but question about the rest of their known world. You mentioned before that in other countries, Infernals are free to use their powers, and we know Mansa is an immigrant - so are most places still prejudice against infernal/human relationships (since it is the 1800's) or is that also more particular countries based?

Foo Fer

Poor Mansa! 😥

Atelerix

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but does he tremble out of rage or reliving the fear, or because he tries to keep himself together not cry from hurt and sadness? Anyway, to everyone who can relate to this story in some way: You are loved, wonderful, and amazing! 🙁💕

Anja Beh

oh baby poor Mansa <3

Luca Valentine

Are courtesan contracts mainly seen among judges or do they also appear/are they common in other classes/occupations? Is it more socially acceptable (from the viewpoint of those in power/peers/not-infs) for a judge to be seen having regular neutral-to-positive interactions with infernals than a constable? (I’m guessing that those with less power/lower social class/infs are either going to view the two professions with similar levels of negative feelings about those who enforce “know your place”/dictate what “your place” means or have especially negative thoughts towards constables specifically because *waves hands at real-world law enforcement analogues*)

M

Really positively, but that’s entirely self serving. If he had a secret of Mansa’s then if Mansa ever learned about his heritage and told anyone, there’s mutually assured destruction. Thomas is definitely the sort (at this point in the story) to throw even a close friend under the bus to save himself.

Whiteley Foster

He’s very close with his grandmas and while I don’t think they would judge he probably hasn’t told them. That being said they probably know

Whiteley Foster

I might be mixing up their backstories here lol, so apologies if I’m misremembering but didn’t he have a close connection with like his grandma or an aunt (the one who taught him sewing)? Would he have talked about it with them, like just mentioned it in the way little kids do when they talk about their friends or kids they know?

Cathlo Morton

Ohhh, Mansa. Can I hug him? I'd really like to hug him.

Ashfae

How did Thomas react, given his own heritage?

Ashfae

poor sweet mansa... i know how he feels. thankfully, the one sibling i do have (my younger sister) has been extremely supportive, but the entire rest of my family isn't at all. it's a very isolating feeling to be put in the middle and feel like you have to choose between having a life that's authentic to who you are and that makes you happy, or being able to keep your family

Planetary System

Oh Song is getting angry, I can understand why. Mansa is so gentle and sweet and his family still treats him like that.

YamiKakyuu

Oh this is heartbreaking... It must be such a relief for him to finally have someone to talk to about these things

Marta

That shaking hand says so much!

Susanne mizz_uzie Olsson

Oh poor baby

Tarek Giver of Cookies

He’s probably gotten detailed but not as much as he is here

Whiteley Foster

Sounds like a good plan. I love the parallels though.

Tamerrae

After this incident a lot of people in his home probably knew, but only Thomas in the army, and nobody on the police force

Whiteley Foster

Being attracted to infernals/humans is a stand in for lgbtq! I didn’t want to write a world where homophobia and heteronormativity was common place.

Whiteley Foster

Sweet Mansa! My heart aches for him. I also had a sibling that was that way to me. I don’t have a question, I just want to give him a hug.

Holly Handel

Poor baby 😭 But I bet it’s also so liberating to finally tell someone about this. Thomas knows about his attraction to infernals but did Mansa ever get that detailed?

Little0cean

oh dear Mansa, I feel him so deeply here 🥺💔 has he ever had a friend or any peer in his close proximity that was supportive? has he ever told anyone about this before? ❤️

sick_pineapple

:((

Vala

Is he hiding that he is lgbtqia+ or is attracted to infernals?

Tamerrae
