I appreciate your analysis and I certainly agree with everything. My initial comment came from a place of visceral frustration due to familiarity with Mansaās side of things but I donāt mean or want to judge Song badly for it. In fact, the way his beliefs make perfect sense for him right now is exactly what makes this so maddening. āValuesā wasnāt exactly the right word to describe it; itās more like Song doesnāt *trust* what Mansa says in his proposal. Which I think is reasonable even beyond Elonās mindfuckery. I mean, Song has been doing really illegal and harmful smuggling for a year, his ambitions to train his magic is literally outlawed, and Mansa hasnāt been around to prove his devotion during these difficult times. It doesnāt take a terribly insecure mind to think thatās all going to screw up the marriage before it even begins but then Song has the addition of Elon confirming all these worst case scenarios for him and of course heās going to internalize that more than anything Mansa says. *Of course* Song doesnāt have the faith in himself to stay under these conditions. Also I feel like in Songās mind, Mansaās proposal must have been conditional on his ignorance. Like he thinks if Mansa knew the truth, itād all be over, so the promises made in ignorance donāt really ācount.ā That lack of trust still makes me feel like shit for Mansa though and I think about that preview panel of him yelling at Song post-reunion A LOT

2022-07-24 06:34:01 +0000 UTCI donāt think that Song doesnāt value Mansaās words. I think he does value them, a lot. Itās just that Elon holds an immense power over Song. Like Song cut his nails short again just because he spend time around him. With Mansa he felt comfortable having long nails. Even though he felt the need to ask for Mansa permission first before doing so, which isā¦ just yikes. With Mansa he was able to get his self esteem and self worth back. He was healing. He was happy. On page 60 Whitley confirmed in the comment section that if Song didnāt spend 1 years working for Elon that he would have been fine. Elon shattered Songs self esteem and self worth all over again. And I canāt even begin to imagine how painful that is. And the sad thing is, Mansa doesnāt even know what Song is going through. He does know something is up but Song doesnāt want to talk about it. And I donāt think Mansa is the kind of person that would just force you to talk about something. And it wouldnāt help the situation and probably scare poor Song even more. Mansa conclusion is probably āSong is going through something and it started after he begann doing this jobs. When I get that promotion Song will be able to do the jobs that make him happy again.ā He has no idea that Songs ex is back and if I remember correctly Mansa hasnāt even met him or even knows the details of their relationship. Probably because that stuff is very painful for Song to talk about.

Especially once he falls asleep (even though I know he wonāt here). I guess Iām thinking about how many times in a night I roll over and accidentally wack my husband in the face with my braid. š
