We lost Todd last session but we fought the good fight, and both Pal and Iena ended up with Lingering Damage.
For anyone who doesn’t play dnd/know this rule, it’s also called Lingering Injury. Different tables play it different ways, but in our campaign if you lose more than 75% of your HP in a single critical hit your character is left with some kind of lasting physical injury relating to the attack. This was my first experience with it as a PC!
Iena’s was a due to flaming sword, the DM described it as a huge burning wound from the side of her face down to her stomach, so this is what I envisioned! Pal was hit with sonic/force damage on the side of his head so he’s deaf in that ear with a light force scar that branches from his ear to his cheek.
There’s a player in our group who doesn’t like this rule so his character doesn’t change physically when he’s had this happen to him (we love open honest communication and consent at our table!) But if you’re looking for something to add a little more peril and raise the stakes in your game I highly recommend trying this out! Just be sure to talk with players/DMs beforehand to know exactly what kind of physical damage they’d be okay with taking on in case something is triggering!
