Mansa and Song (Chapter 1 | Page 39)

Any predictions about what happened to the letter? 👀

All of this. Songy didn’t let go all this time

BlueBaggins

Bingo

I agree, I think Thomas may have seen it in the mail and thought he was doing Mansa a favor. He hasn’t been very good at minding his own business.

litlgreenleaf

Why does Song always hold out his pinkies? Will he scratch himself by accident?

BloodRaven

I agree, I also think that either the letter or the reply was intercepted.

Atelerix

I can totally see him keeping the letter. Mansa probably was no longer allowed to become a high counsel member with his partner being a criminal. Leaving the path clear for Thomas to take his place. Giving Song the opportunity to explain himself could have given Mansa the courage to fight for the spot.

Little0cean

*cough cough* Thomas *cough*

Little0cean

I think Mansa would have definitely replied to the letter. I think he either never received it or someone manipulated the letter and made him think Song never wanted a reply in the first place. But why would Ghost give Song the option to send a letter only to go back on that option? She did say “let’s not burn that bridge down just yet” if I remember correctly. Thomas is also a good option. I can see him keeping the letter if he found it but I don’t see how he would have gotten his hands on it.

And look at that CLAW!!! OK I have to scream about this, this page is so elegantly done. Just one claw showing his life now, his situating himself more firmly with the internals, his sharp edges with no soft Mansa to cushion him... but clinging to that coat, clinging to the past!! (And wrapping an arm around himself, poor bb.)

Terri J

Oh, Song, you lovable fluff-head. A letter? Do you see all the possibilities we've come up with in mere moments? I'm sure there are more, too! We love you, string bean, but sometimes you has a bit of a dumb. 💕

Aly

I imagined him keeping it in a drawer somewhere and either rereading it feverishly or never opening it. But also, at the end of Smuggler, Song had left the ring (and Mansa didn't know why) and then Mansa was shown his medallion that Song had left (accidentally left, but again Mansa didn't know that). So he might be afraid to see what Song wrote him? Also, if the police are watching him because of his connection to a suspect, they might also be monitoring his communication, so THEY might have intercepted the letter (or if Mansa got it, he might not want anyone to know he has it, and/or might not be able to send a reply).

Terri J

I'm thinking that but more that if Song was expecting a reply he would have included the address of where he was going. She probably didn't want any possibility of them being tracked down (and why would she trust a human judge she doesn't know to not report it?)

Ever Feather

This letter or the reply got intercepted. Or somebody convinced Mansa to “try and move on” and not reply

BlueBaggins

I'd think Mansa never received it. I don't see him not responding. Or his reply never arrived.

Mika A.

Never sent or intercepted…

Mimsynims

I’d say someone took the letter seeing Mansa heartbroken and did it to try and spare him the pain they thought was in the letter.😭😢

Kiylie Denesen

Ohhhhh frick. I'm betting Ghost intercepted it, to reduce the chance that Mansa might ask Song to come back and thus get him away from her, but....merf. Whatever happened, poor both of them!

Ashfae

I'm definitely on the "Mansa never got the letter" side but not sure of how it (didn't) happen

Amber Stewart

Mansa never got the letter, never knew why Song had to go or whether he was even safe. Heartbroken boys all around

Cj

Letter fell or mansa couldn't read it

Tarek Giver of Cookies

I'm kind of stuck between either, Mansa didn't open it, but has kept it in a desk somewhere. Or, It could have been confiscated before it could get to Mansa.

Ace Of Tales

The letter may have been received but how would Mansa know where to send a reply? Or, 🥺💔 He may have questioned the sense in replying. If Mansa had received the letter, he won’t have thrown it away.

Nicola Coxon

I can imagine Mansa trying to tear the letter into one million pieces. Than he put it away. Repeat the same till eternaty.🥲

Eszter Tóth

I don't ... The options are Ghost intercepted it and burnt it, or Mansa didn't read it and threw it away. But Imma be honest I don't like the implications of either option.

Neil K.

Algernon.

Kaiannanthi

Oh, someone either stole the letter he sent or the reply he (obviously) didn't recieve 😔
