2023-09-17 18:55:35 +0000 UTCYup oppressors always worsen their oppression when they sense themselves losing control over the people they’ve abused 😬 which is why I don’t think it matters how people are trying to fight for equal rights. Bigots aren’t just scared of their victims getting fed up and cutting their heads off; they’re scared of their victims reaching a status where they can no longer be held down through the law and social discrimination. Unless infernals all just quietly took the abuse, any attempt at equality would be met with the same vicious backlash (or at least they do in our world). Like I’m not sure I could believe that bigots like Charles would somehow be more okay with Raine if Ghost were a peaceful protestor; we saw how the guy simply doesn’t differentiate between levels of conjuring power bc to him it’s all deviance. I wouldn’t be surprised if Thomas/Mansa’s legal strides are infuriating people on the same level as Ghost’s illegal antics, since ultimately they both empower the power bigots hate most. In a way, I would think their work kind of complements each other. (Ghost defies unfair laws while Mansa rewrites them) My main worry is if Ghost has a “burn it all down” sort of mentality that would lead them to attack allies like Mansa who are technically part of the system (*thinks back to those fight scene previews* 😥)

It just sucks that none of these Infernals will be able to practice their culture because bigoted people made it illegal 🥲(as of right now). Sure riots and chaos can inspire change but they can also make bigoted people really paranoid 😂(oh no a flower 😱 the horror). And they know Ghosts exists. We’ve seen her on wanted posters. She’s displayed to the public as someone who is potentially very dangerous. Who’s to say they don’t arrest and harshly punish literally every infernal that conjures in public, in hopes that it’s one of the Infernals in Ghosts group. Even if it was an accident caused by an cathartic caster. They can’t help it. Like Raine is literally still a minor and I’m sure Captain asshat would have gladly thrown them into jail. But yeah I wonder if Ghosts group overall doesn’t keep up with the law or if it was Song just trying to stay as far away from literally anything related to Port Alma. Like what if he hears something about his boyfriend 😱 Or maybe he was just to depressed to care or check😅

2023-09-17 16:46:17 +0000 UTCDon’t underestimate the threat of riots and chaos as a motivating source of legal change 😂 Especially with conjuring as a metaphor for queerness, Ghost’s movement seems to help infernals *not* to live under or accept oppression and that causes frisson in the status quo simply by its nature. I do want to see if Ghost has larger goals too but keeping forbidden culture alive actually means a lot imo. What makes this funny to me is that I assumed the movement itself would be pretty tapped into systemic issues, if only to better evade the law. And that means to me, it seems more likely Song has been totally tapped out of the news cycle after running away, even though he’s directly contributing to it.
