I’d love to clarify something just for a moment here because this is the earliest interaction we’ve seen between these two and this is important. And I’d also love to know your interpretation!
They LOVED each other so hard that they broke. It was cruel and possessive and toxic but it was as real as any other relationship, and just because there was a lot of bad didn’t mean that that love Song felt was somehow invalidated. Their relationship is me unpacking my own abusive relationship in… every single way. And it sucks to say that that love was true and as real as I’ve ever felt with anyone else. Eventually the bad just outweighs the love and you crack under the pressure, in which case it feels like your fault since you weren’t strong enough to carry the load. And then you see your abuser seeming easily carrying it and think “I’d give anything to be as strong as them”. They’re strong because they’re leeching your strength.
Song’s not afraid of Elon in this moment. He’s seen him do things shitty enough that Song left but ultimately Elon was the one who told Song to go (we’ll get into that during Elon’s flashbacks!) and now he’s back! So in this moment… Song sees this as redemption. Mansa is fifty feet away but the man who he had ALL of his firsts with is only ten feet away…
