2025 writeup
Added 2026-01-03 14:06:59 +0000 UTCWhoops, been busy with the project that I forgot to write a summary of last year. The main project of last year was definitely Raw Footage and I am very happy with how it turned out. I tried a new approach where I made a reference movie ahead of time and followed it religiously.
I was at first worried that the approach would be too rigid, blindly following reference, but turns out it was the best improvement in my work I've had in years (at least I feel so, let me know your opinion :D). It made me confident to commit to a large project featuring 4 characters that I am currently working on.
Some other shorts like the shadowheart one were also made with this approach, and it lets me focus on specific stuff - in this case the facial animations. I definitely want to do more of those.
Last but not least was the collaboration with Radroach. I didn't do much animating on this one, mainly just focusing on simulations and other technical aspects. It was interesting to work with such a great animator, it definitely made me want to improve my own craft.
Overall, I am very happy with how 2025 turned out, at least when it comes to my work, and I am looking forward to the next year. I hope all of you had nice holidays and are ready for future.

Probably the 4 characters, it's a lot of work and logistics, plus some optimization needed behind the scenes. It's different from e.g. Lollipop Effect because in that software you could spawn in 6 characters and it still ran smooth, blender is a bit heavier (or rather not as optimized?)

2026-01-04 00:29:52 +0000 UTCI love Raw Footage, it was hot as fuck & was a neat idea put into motion. The only issue (not even really an issue personally) was due to the constraints of it being the camera's POV for the middle part of the animation it meant 1) we didn't get to see all that insane hotness up close & personnel or from different angles so it was easy to miss how much work you put into animating even just 1min of those parts. That being said I it's not really a criticism cause I like the idea overall & the beginning & ending vary it up & don't have those constraints. Bring on the 2026 hotness.
