Sketchbook

Evening everyone, hope you're all well.

I felt like I was sucked clean of my energy yesterday night. Had like zero motivation to do anything but watch my brother play Elden Ring. Maybe I ate too much or need to get back into doing exercise.

In any case I didn't want to let the day slip by without working on something. I think maybe I was just scared of the time commitment to doodling and sketching ideas. I like to work on something until it's shiny and finished but I think it makes me terrible at conceptualizing. Sounds silly but that's how my brain works.

These are the two sketch pages from this weekend. Most of Sunday was sketching out face stuff to try and understand what I like and want some of my work to look like without thinking about what others think about it. Started with Link with different eyes and facial structure looking the Ocarina art, Naruto and just some personal thoughts. It then turned into me trying to draw Orin. My head wanted to make something shiny and finished but I forced myself to just work things out quickly and loosely. It was a nice change of pace for mindset that has me reaching for the goal without running the race.

I'm pretty happy with how the Orin page turned out. Started realizing places where I started warping his design and needed to address like his hair and eyes. I like the sort of chill vibes he gives off but I'm not sure I want him too chill. I looked back at some of the original drawings and I liked how he had more of an innocent curious air to him. Like Goku from Dragon Ball but not as stupid.

Profile views are a nightmare for me so I stuck it out till I got it right. Still needs some more polish but I think 6 turned out pretty solid. A nice balance of cute and silly? I want it to be simple but with a dash of complexity so opted out of using the typical lipless lower face you tend to see in anime. I like how it looks I just don't think I do it well yet. It's clear that I also have a huge problem when it comes to proportions which I've been noticing more and more lately so that's something to think about in future studies.

Something else I've been trying to get better at is being funny. Artistically speaking I think I can stand with  some improvement. I've been reading One Piece lately and I love how Oda makes his characters looks horrible to express a point. The exaggeration is always terrifying a puts a big smile on my face so I tried my had at a few ugly Orins. They made me laugh so good enough.

TLDR - Ooo brain dumb draw draw funny hee hee ho ho!
