Remember, what's left inside the core is only a fragment of the original soul, not the whole thing. So only the most significant and deeply imprinted of the beast's memories are reflected in the reliving that Greg undergoes. Also, while he may actively feel what the animal feels while in the illusion, when he wakes up, he remembers who he is and that they aren't his memories. Hope that helps.

I am a bit confused as to how the beast core illusions work. When Alena announced that Greg was reliving the monsters life, my mind immediately jumped to how that life ended. I thought one of the dangers of the situation would be, that if Olivia and Alena didn't get Greg out in time, he would emerge with severe PTSD from reliving the animals memory of being tortured to death. This not only putting an immense strain on his soul, but also again threatening the relationship between Greg and Alena, as she had been the one guilty of that torture. However this was not addressed, which leads me to the conclusion that Greg didn't actually relive the entire life of the earthmover. So why not and which memories are chosen? Did he only get a rerun of the "greatest hits" of the beasts memories? Or is it maybe only the parts of its life when the beast learned new magical abilities or trained their use, since those memories would be relevant to strengthening Greg's own magical affinity? I could keep spitballing here, but I'd especially love to here the authors thoughts on how this works :)

They seem to be overlooking a few things but it is understandable since it is new territory but an easy test to do would be to find a mana core with healing affinity and see if he can raise that affinity from near nothing to something and so on. It would either work, not work, work and degrade his earth affinity, or work and reinforce the healing affinity pathways while not hindering the earth ones, or a bit of a mix of them both perhaps opening more universal pathways where both can coexist. But yeah, in the very least he could raise his earth affinity with cores, then train for healing, and if earth degraded he could potentially re-raise the affinity again with more cores. Also, he has a potential ways to pay for cores by exchanging system items that the healer wants for cores, which she seems to have a good number of. All he need do is a bit of....grinding to get system points to buy things.
