Year 2025, Decisions, Decisions, Decisions!
Added 2024-12-30 10:18:02 +0000 UTCHappy New Year!!
I wish I could say that wholeheartedly, but I’ve just received some devastating news: the project I’ve been working on has been dropped, effective immediately! This means I’ll be out of a job come next year. I had already planned my life around keeping this position for a good while and even made several pre-orders for the coming year. Now that I’m unemployed, I might have to scrap all my plans and come up with a quick solution.
I have a few scenarios in mind:
Return to Re:Library
Now that I’m jobless, I could devote all my time to Re:Library. This means going back to my Plan B—translating more Chinese novels and hoping one of them will generate enough interest to cover my expenses.Fire the Current Chinese Translators
I could let go of the translators working on Demon Sword Maiden, Reborn as a Transcendent, and Dragon Princess, then handle those projects myself. This would secure at least $600 a month if I’m the one doing all the translating. But it’s a heartless move, and I don’t have a solid reason to fire them. The lack of funding might be an excuse, but this is my personal problem and doesn’t really involve Re:Library or its staff.Join the Family Business
While not my first choice, it’s still a family business. If a day comes when my father can no longer run it, I’d be forced to take over anyway. Starting now would give me valuable experience and prevent me from being left clueless if something happens unexpectedly. But if I don’t start, and that day arrives, I’d be dealing with a sinking ship—and that’s bad in every sense of the word.
So those are my current options, and I’ll need to decide which direction to take in the coming year.
Comments
Happy new years! Although a bit of a cruel surprise. I'd argue that thinking ahead, the family business may indeed be the better option. Reading along the other comments, I see that you mentioned that it would leave you with little to no time to manage Re:Library, which is a shame, but you can't put things on your plate when things are already falling off from it. I should not presume or dig into the nature of the family business, but if there is a chance that with time and experience you may have a bit more free time down the line, maybe you could have someone you trust help you steer the ship meanwhile. Ultimately there are many things to consider, and it's a tough choice you must go through, but I hope that, whatever you choose, will be the best for yourself.

2024-12-30 14:49:42 +0000 UTCHappy New Year mate. I like reading these sort of novels and I like what you are doing here, but at some point, you will have to think at what's best for you - which is possibly taking over the family business if no one else can do so.

2024-12-30 10:46:54 +0000 UTCLooking at long term goal, that is certainly the best choice, but it will equally leave me with nearly no time to manage Re:Library, which is a conundrum on its own.
