“Demons run when a good man goes to war
Night will fall and drown the sun
When a good man goes to war
Friendship dies and true love lies
Night will fall and the dark will rise
When a good man goes to war
Demons run, but count the cost
The battle's won, but the child is lost”
(Doctor Who)
This whole scene was so eerie that it felt natural to use very unusual colours for me...
I can't wait for Orym to at least meet up with Fearne again next episode. He needs a hug so badly.
I have a timestamp of the moment if you'd like to (re)watch the scene - it starts here.
Some context for those who don't follow Critical Role but would like to know more (with links to pictures, yay):
The overarching plot of this campaign is an antagonist named Ludinus Da'leth, who found out that one of the world's moons was not a moon at all, but was created at the dawn of time by the gods to imprison a voracious entity from outer space, which had devoured two of the gods before it was locked away. Ludinus, disillusioned with the gods, tries to break out this god-eater to end all the gods.
To achieve these ends, Ludinus needs something divine, and found there was a recently ascended man who now serves the goddess of death - Vax'ildan (who was a character from two campaigns past. Vax was played by Liam - who now plays Orym in this campaign). To bring out Vax'ildan and capture his divine essence to be used in his schemes, Ludinus sent assassins to the woman Vax had loved - Keyleth, the druid ruler of Zephrah. Keyleth was defended by her guards, two of whom were killed in the attack - Will, Orym's husband, and Will's father Derrig, Orym's father in law. Until now, Orym merely wanted to understand. He wasn't bent on vengeance. For years, he had no idea why his husband and father had to die, not knowing about Ludinus, the moon, the god-eater, the scheme to capture Vax'ildan (whom he barely knew).
Now, they have unravelled Ludinus' plot, and are doing their best to foil it. In the middle of a confrontation with Ludinus' henchmen, a cosmic event teleported them from an apparatus called the Malleus Key (which Ludinus used to break open the moon to free the god-eater) to remote spots of the world (and the party was split along the way). There, this half of the party found other people who had been teleported to the same spot by the same event (guest players!). One of them, Bor'Dor, claimed to be a simple sheep farmer, but after days of travelling together, he revealed that he had been one of Ludinus' men, teleported from the same place as the characters, and he'd seen them killing his friends. In revealing this, Bor'Dor set off an acid spell and tried to escape. The other characters - Deni$e, Prism, Ashton, Laudna, and Orym - fought him, and Laudna killed him, though Bor'Dor was defenseless by that point.
