The third and final page! The script provided by the commissioner called for the MILF Demon’s setting to be an ordinary sitcom-ish living room which just happens to be in Hell. I wish it wasn’t covered in word balloons because there’s a pretty accurate rendition of the Married with Children set under all that text.
Speaking of scripts, situations like this are the reason why The Underburbs operates on loose outlines and artistic ad-libbing on my end. Don’t get me wrong, the guy sent me a good script. It’s just that in any script, it’s hard to stick to the panel count. The script called for three panels, but all the dialogue needed more angle changes, at least in my mind. Three panels can easily become five, and that’s me trying to dial it back. I try not to make a new panel for every little thing, because it practically becomes a storyboard at that point.
But it still bothers me when I read comics where too many ideas or emotions are conveyed in text, but in too few panels. It can make the expressions or actions of the characters disagree with the dialogue. This happens a lot more in comic strips or webcomics that tend to stay constrained to 3 or 4 panels.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this early look at a commission! I should have it on DeviantArt pretty soon.
