At the risk of sounding a little blowhardy, art is about observation. One of the very first things I was taught in Illustration is “the cartoon in your head is wrong.” I was told not to just draw a little green lollipop tree, go outside and draw a real tree. That might be a bad example, since I still struggle with trees. But I do take note of handbags apparently.
