Koholint Island

Hype sketch while I count the minutes to Nintendo’s E3 Direct. Link’s Awakening is one of my all-time favorite games for a multitude of reasons. I admit nostalgia is one of them. I beat the game on a family beach vacation back in 1993, so the setting was perfect. Its history is pretty fascinating too. It was initially developed after hours in secret, so it’s got that whole labor of love quality to it. (As much as a billion dollar company can, I guess.) They got to experiment with the gameplay and story in ways they couldn’t have for a regular console release. It’s also the first game I ever played that ends on such a bittersweet note.

Despite all that, this is my first time trying to draw Marin, and boy does it show.

The game reminds me of Lost. You arrive at the island after a near-death experience. The island and its people are hold a hidden secret , and you fight a crazy smoke monster. I like this game a lot more than Lost.

I ignore the timeline and the Oracle games.

Its one Zelda game I've never played, my father didn't believe in game boys, we had enough games at home with out taking them with us. I remember buying my first one with my first check ever working one of those Purple game boy colors I think it was.

Fun fact: Ignoring the 'official' timeline, it's possible to place the events of Link's Awakening right in the middle of Oracle of Ages.
