So I went ahead and watched the rest of the show. It's so good! Lol I think the reason he's a creepy old man inside is because it's the idea of, if you had a chance to completely start over and remember your past life's mistakes, could you learn and grow apart from your negative traits and traumas. I think (creepiness aside, which does get better) that it's a beautiful concept as someone who lived closely the same way. My traumas shut me down and turned me into a really negative and sometimes toxic person for a very long time and I was lucky enough to get that wakeup call relatively early in this lifetime to start making changes. But the hurdles to make those changes are incredibly high and take so much to work through. Rudy has to come to terms with if he's going to be stuck in the past or if he'll let go and truly become Rudeous Grayrat. Right now in the show, he's safe in his fantasy. His scars are out of sight, out of mind, but they're not truly gone so when his blinders are stripped away, that's when we'd see real growth from him.
